On the 16th November 2006 I wrote that Nissan had agreed to pay for the repairs to my Patrol's 3.0 litre motor.

Yesterday I picked up my patrol from the Nissan dealer with what is effectively a new motor.

A new rebuilt short motor including a new block. The head was checked for cracks and overhauled. There was no charge to me. The bill was paid for by Nissan.

The Patrol is going well (1 day). My confidence in my Nissan dealer and Nissan in general is still there.

Good for you and it is great to finally hear a good report about Nissan. It has increased my faith in Nissan a little.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

Hi

How many klm's did it Actually Do Before It Actually Destroyed Itself.?

Also have you had any problems as yet with the 5 th gear problem ?.

Is the 5 th gear problem restricted to the 4 clyinder's or doe's it also affect the 4.2 diesel's also ?......Not sure if they have the same gearbox ?

With Thanks Shane

5th gear is a cross motor problem

Shane

The patrol had 152,500 km before it gave up.

5th gear was replaced at 123,000. No idea about the 4.2, I have only heard about the 3.0 litre.

G'day Ron,

Good to hear that Nissan have looked after you.
Do you know if Nissan has replaced your Engine with a series III spec engine?

Cheers

Catfish

I saw the old block on the bench in the workshop.

The invoice states "repair kit consisting of a complete short motor. I assume they would replace it with the latest.

Hi Dave

The Nissan Dealer I dealt with was Robinson Nissan at Rockdale - Sydney. They have always given me good service with courtesy and this effort only confirms this. I have 2 Nissans which get serviced there as well as friends who go there.

That is great news for you Ron. I wish I had been as lucky when mine gave up at 195,000 but I spoke to the wrong person at Nissan and I don't think my dealer went into bat for me. Thats fine . What goes around comes around. Anyhow good luck with the "new" Nissan.

Hi shaen,

Are you sure!!! Its my understanding that the gearbox in the GU4.2 and GU3.0 is the same, its the diff ratios that are different.

Cheers
