Within a week another mva involving a fatality at Picton. I don't know why, but our shire- Wollondilly -has the dubious honour of being the highest motor vehicle fatal statistics in NSW...and that's even higher than the notorious Pacific Hwy up North.
If you drive the roads around here- they are 'littered' with roadside memorials.
Just dunno what's going on.
Just my soapbox for the day. It really irks me when I, and my mates in the RFS, have gotta attend these mvas and hose body off the road and clean up the mess. And sometimes, it's actually a person the the member knows.
Very few Highway Patrol cars around- even though this area is supposedly patrolled by the Mittagaong and
Macarthur LACs. And if they are out & about, what are they doing??
A
young guy next door was pulled up late at night coz he had his music up loud. They (the cops) searched his car- couldn't fault it- but gave him a unroadworthy notice because it didn't have a tyre placard specification sticker on the door pillar- C'mon... When he took it in to have the notice removed, the inspector advised him that on his car, the tyre specification sticker is (and was) actually in the glove box lid.
Have a great (and safe) weekend all..

Hi Signman
the other month when I was travelling
Appin road I commented to another bloke that I had never seen so many scarred trees along the roadside and so many with memorials attached. While there is hardly a decent verge, some of the trees (BIG trees) are within a car width of the lane. Dunno what the remedy is but thanks to you and your fellow volunteers for doing the job, it must be very difficult when the people are known to you. I raise my stubbie to you and your colleagues, Thanks
Cheers
Andy

Sorry guys, but I personally don't think
Appin road, or the old Hume Hwy at Picton are the problem, yes they could be upgraded/realigned.
I've been driving on these roads since I was 12 years old (driving dads cars out to visit the relos at Tahmoor) he believed in starting us
young and teaching defencesive driving skills from the start.
How many of today's
young drivers have the necessary skills to be able to react
well in an emergency?
Driver training is the key, we need much more before they are let out alone!
RFS & SES as
well as the other emergency
services are doing a great job, but I'll be doing every thing that I can to ensure that my son has all the skills possible, BEFORE he gets a licence!
