Hi, I am looking to buy a 12V Fluro light, does anyone know any good stockists in Victoria? I have found a store that stocks Worksafe, Coleman and Spinifex, but was looking particularly for a Versi-lite as heard recommendations on these. Also, does anyone know if there are any 12V LED lights available?

Hi JaniceB
I have an ARB take off of the Vera Light, as well as 2 Versa Lights. The versa lights are over 14 years old and still going as strong as ever. The same can not be said with the ARB (made in China) Try TJM or other good 4x4 stores and go for the Versa Light, as you will be more than very happy with the Australia Made product.

I use a range of compact flouro's, but the best is my Versalite - really good output for the current. You're looking at about $100, but it's still my best. And lowest RF interference for some reason or other.
On the cheaper end, Jaycar sell normal-shaped 12v CFLs, like the ones you use at home, but you need to put them in some protective container, like a jar. <$20 makes them good value.
Stay away from the older style $12 flouro bar light with a simple 8-10w straight tube. Miserable output, and they don't last - they get weaker and weaker.
I noticed Jaycar also sell a bar-light full of leds. Also, I seem to recall Repco selling similar.
But you can't beat the CFL flouro for best light.

Thanks guys, sounds like Versalite is a winner. Victorian Campers are getting some in this week, so all sorted!
Thanks for your help!!

Janice,

As Leroy stated, the Piranha is made in the same factory as the Verslite.

If you can't find a stockist for the Versalite in Vic, you can order it from Discount Camping here is SA.
Alternatively, you can buy the Piranha equivalent from TJM outlets as they are Piranha distributors.

A useful accessory from Discount Camping is a Versalite "bracket", which also fits the Piranha fluro. This bracket slides over the rear end of the fluro and can then be suspended from a tent or awning pole. (slides up or down)

They are a good idea Sand Man - the bracket I mean but I have a magnet on mine which has a stand off piece to allow it to be cable tied to the stand off part. It is a bit like a "Z" where the magnet is at the top

Must admit a fluro is better than led's, but when camping I run off led's ( mr16 multi led downlights for cooking and 20 led rope lights for lounging about ) or gas lights ( or both )

Except for reading ( I'd rather drink ! ) I find led's put out enough light for me and I can run led's off a 70ah agm batt for over a week and not have to worry about charging hassles !!!

I found there aftersales service first rate - sent my versa light into them .. The switch started playing up after 7 years - They sent it back with a brand new cable and switch and didn't charge me a cent!
Excellent product and service.
Cheers

Go to Aussie Disposals & get the Primus version of the Versa-Lite, almost exactly the same & comes with a bag for around $60.00.

I also have a 60 LED rechargeable cordless worklight, in a word ....... fantastic!

If you have the option of flushmounting a fluoro, the Narva 13watt fluoro is great. I have them mounted under my lift-up sides - no need to store or setup - just flick the switch. Cost about $30 each, and available at Narva stockists - I think Derek stocks them.

Hi JaniceB

Yes as a fixed light the Narva one is great. The Torpedo light is a great portable option.

Derek.
