Hi all,
Anybody ever been to
Nipper Pinnacle? It has caught my interest for a while now. I have seen it in the far distance from
McPhersons Pillar.
Dept. of Lands and Information could only provide limited information like position, and who it was named after(Nipper who went with Kidson down the CSR). They did provide a reference number which took me eventually to the State Records Office, but even then only minor additional information was obtained. It seems it was noted first by Aerial Photographs; I can find no record (yet) of anyone ever going there.
I'm toying with the idea of going there on a quick "in and out" trip next year as my hopes for a extended tour were bleep tered when my boss said I cannot take more than 3 weeks off at a time.
It is a fairly prominent feature, mostly because of its isolation, so I'm sure it would have attracted the attention of others.
Any comments would be apprieciated!
Cheers

Geez Al,
The Gibson is a big place..I suppose I will have to go to the maps to find out where it is. Can you give me a hint?...lol
There is quite a large
pinnacle to the east of Allambi Station. Have been there. Must look up the name of it some time
Cheers

Hi Willem,
It's about 70km east of the
Gary Hwy and about the same distance north of the
Alfred and Marie Range. I'm thinking of coming in on the Talawana from
Newman and out some other way back to
Perth.
You know I like those nice lonely hills. I haven't heard of Allambi Stn.

Hi Al
Just found
Nipper Pinnacle on my GDT map. It seems like it is about 50km south of
Windy Corner and then the 70km east. The maps shows no dune activity so it should be a straight forward good spinifex, turpentine, mulga and shale run. Also shows few creekbeds. Just take a GPS bearing and do it after lunch so that the sun isnt in your eyes....lol
I havent been to
Windy Corner yet but will be out there in 2008, doing the last of the
Gary Hwy and most likely also the top end of the
Eagle Hwy. Only got as far as
Warri site this year and on a previous trip as far south as Veevers Crater.
Allambi Station is on the Old
Andado Track(sorry should have given more info). This
pinnacle which is unnamed on both GDT and Raster maps must lie in the Arookaba Range, south west of
Todd River Station and most likely inside the North West
Simpson Desert Aboriginal Trust(Pmere Nyante). Cant quite remember as I went that way in 1992. I have a photo of it somewhere...
Cheers
