Never mind Stage 3 - in my opinion we should be on Stage 4 now!

Anyway: in order to ease things a bit (as I do most summers) I recently re-plumbed the washing machine outlet to drain into an old garden pond liner which also has a small submersible pump installed - I then pump this water around the garden as necessary and use no drinking water at all for garden purposes.

It's a simple and easy thing to do - if lots of people did it we'd save lots of water.

Hi Mike:

We should not have any restrictions at all if those lame brained cretins that get elected did their jobs properly. There is more than enough water in Australia for everyone, but the range of mental geldings we have had to endure over the years, masquerading as servants of the people and pandering to minority parties and groups, have less foresight than Stevie Wonder!

We have level 4 here on the Central Coast (NSW), while both sides of us (Sydney and Newcastle) have much lower restrictions.

I wanted to put in a fresh water tank about 10 years ago and was told I would never get it passed because Gosford Council wants to sell the water. Now they can't supply it!

It's their problem, so they can fix it!!

So many politicians, so little ammunition!!!

Jack,

Don't know about Newcastle but Sydney is at Level 3 at the moment and likely to go to level 4 early in the New Year. We're not far behind (or is that in front of?) you at the moment.

Solve the water Problem> Simple, stop the population explosion, with population comes the need for more natural resources and space both of which we don’t have enough off, yes we have a lot of land but it isn’t exactly able to sustain population.

Yep but with the world being run by economists and money slowing the population growth is not an option.

Sooner or later something is going to give and it will be the planet.

We should be looking at other countries, which are overpopulated, and the problems it has caused. But not look at how they are working around it, but look at how we can plan to avoid the same fate.

Well the Water Minister denied there was a plan to upgrade the restrictions just prior to the elections and too many people believed him.

There will be no tolls..............

A bit off topic for Mike Harding: You may (or may not) be aware that there are a couple of laundry products that are OK to use in the wash if you plan to use the water on your garden in the manner that you have mentioned in your post. It was being discussed this morning on the local Gardening Show. Using the usual stuff can cause some problems due to phosphates or something. Not sure if this is a useful "heads up" for you, as I am not a gardener, but thought you may be interested.

Cheers

Yep, been doing it for 4 years in this house, installed straight away when we moved in. Ive got a dryer vent through the wall cavity to outside about a foot off the ground, found a washing machine extension hose at the purple pig which is the same grey convoluted plastic as the stock washing machine hose with rubber joining sleeves at each end. Joined it up at the top of the sink and ran it out through the vent, it reaches most parts of our main garden, and the washing machine pump not gravity moves the water out, we just move the hose each load.

It has saved all our trees and shrubs, infact most of them are going great guns.

NOW - the important bit, you must use a phosphate free low salt detergent, most "clear" liquids are salt free, and quite a few are phosphate free - mother earth / polo etc. This way it doesnt hurt any of the plants, natives love it , and because of the wetting agent, it penetrates really well into the soil, even in our heavy clay soil here in sunbury.

I think the 20 mt length was around $ 38 from memory.

Well we are level 4 and sooon to be level 5!! And I work for a power station and of course, we use lots of water. If level 5 comes in, they are going to have shut down part of the power station *four units, shutting down 2* whether we have a power shortage or not!

Water is more important than power!

I like this bit, "There is no way the government, led by Morris Iemma will allow Sydney to run out of water." I didn't know he could control the weather. Pray to Huey? Rain dance? Or is god a Labor minister? LOL

LOL I had a chuckle over that too. Just another pointer to how arrogant this mob are. I'm hoping the residents of NSW vote for ANYONE but Labour in March.

ps I think Debnam is actually a Labour "sleeper" planted years ago to ensure they never get voted out hahahahahaha
