has anyone had trouble with a speedo (hj75) that squeeks and makes all sorts of noises, despite trying to lube it it still persists. If I need to replace it, can you still buy such parts for a 17 y.o. vehicle?
Glad to be back, I've missed the
forum for the last 2 years.
Cheers

try pulling the speedo out from the back of the dash and instead of lubing it with wd40 or something pack it with a bit of grease where the cable bit screws in

Mine was doing all kinds of antics once, people said I would have to get a new kit,I undone it from the gear box end, pulled the cable right out, greased it and 300,000 later it's working fine, If it ever does pack it in I wont worry to replace because the GPS does a good job showing speed.

Mine does a spastic now and then, goes into phyco mode and seems to multiply its ready by 10. Doing 20km/hr and the gauge says 200!!
then after a while it suddely just drops down to the correct reading *shrug*
Im not fixing it yet.. :P

Long John ..............
If it's a 1HZ Troopy, it's not a faulty speedo cable at all .......... those babies really hum along .......... sometimes at extraordinary speeds !!!

I had the same problem with my troopy FJ75 speedo, first of all it used to squeal intermittently and the needle would flicker, Eventually the needle flickered that much, it fatigued & broke off. So I pulled the speedo out, a simple job, amd took it to a local speedo/instrument repairer. They replaced the bearing and recalibrated the speedo for me. Cost me $85 and
well worth it. Sparky

Thanks everone, I've tried greasing everything although I've never pulled the cable right out, It is just like oz travellers, squeaks and the needle flickers in sincq with the squeak, then stops, really gives you the tom tits. Does anyone know an instrument fixer around
sydney? or points west?

The bloke who fixed my speedo is: Miranda Instrument Service Ph. 9540 4626.
Don't waste time mucking around with the speedo yourself. Pull the speedo out and take it to the instrument repairer. It cost me $88 in 2005.
Sparky.
