Serious smoke haze in southern Melbourne - 50m and one can see the smoke, perhaps... there is just a chance city dwellers will begin to appreciate the problems?

I know what you mean Mike. Just opened the house up down here in Langy to let the cooler air in and now the lounge smells like a camp fire. Such a shame that a smell normally associated with great times is now so devastating.

Just back from 4 days there, the smoke was so bad I could taste it on the top of my mouth, and it caused all sorts of coughs and crap, was in Kilsyth Tues niote and at 11pm you could TASTE the ash in the air.

BTW tell Mildred that although I am an bovine admirer she will always be the apple of my eye

Geez, and I thought it was clearing a bit today too. Sounds like it got worse since I looked outside

Mike,
What makes you think that the people in the city don't appreciate the problem? or in fact haven't expereinced the problem?

Nothing to do with your fires, but you should see the dust rolling in again over Alice!

"there is just a chance city dwellers will begin to appreciate the problems? "

Like one of the school mums I spoke to the other day... "I wish these bloody fire fighters would hurry up and put the fires out, I'm sick of my washing smelling of smoke"

Now that's some appreciation for ya...

Don't worry Mike, probably something to do with the fires in nth eastern Vic. They're pretty big you know and are probably generating a LOT of smoke.
