Have you ever wanted to become a Volunteer Race Official/Marshal and get real close to the action, but never knew how to do it? It isn't that hard!

Winton Raceway in North East Victoria is holding a training/information day on Sunday January 14th and all new comers are encouraged to attend. The day will cover all aspects of being a Race Official/Marshal.

If you wish to attend please PM me and I will pass on your details to the track, or you can ring Heather at Winton Raceway on (03) 5766 4235 or you can email her at heather@wintonraceway.com.au

Also, for an 'outback experience'- the Finke Desert Race are always after officials.

Trev,
How do you then become involved at events after attending the training?

You go onto a mailing list, then a couple of weeks before each meeting you are invited to attend by either email or land mail, you ring or reply to the email and advise whether you can attend or not, if you can attend, you show up at the nominated time and you will paired up with a mentor and off you go.

Not meaning to sound negative, but what compensation is available to your family should yo get hit by a flying bit of debris and get killed?

It has happened.

All race tracks MUST have comprehensive insurance that covers all that. But you are correct, racing is a dangerous sport but mostly for the drivers, there have been a few significant issues in the past, but all tracks also have comprehensive safety rules as well, and most are working towards limiting the danger to officials. I chair the Winton Safety Group.
