You might remember a thread re towing a boat from Sydney to Perth.

After getting a quote of $5000 to transport the boat I decided doing it myself was only option. I got a permit from WA and SA told me that they would recognise the WA permit.

Left Perth on Boxing day and arrived Sydney on 29th. Checked out the boat on 30th and left Sydney on 31st. arrived back in Perth on 3rd. Cruised around 115km/h on trip East and 90km/h coming back with boat in tow. Trip computer shows average of 91km/h for trip

Average fuel consumption for 8005 km was 11.5l/100km. Total fuel cost about $800 (Because the car is leased I do not pay the pump price, lately prices < $1.00/l) and food and accommodation $1000. I was stopped twice by police for RBT, once in Bathurst on was east and once on Eyre peninsula on was back.

Whole trip went smoothly with no problems and boat is now in drive way here needing some TLC after 5 years in storage.

Car is 6 cylinder. Boat is 5m fibre glass trailer sailor on single axle trailer.

I used cruise control and mostly just let that control speed. I seemed to have a tail wind for much of the return trip so guess that helped fuel consumption.

My problem was trailer rego in NSW had expired several years ago. I needed WA, SA and NSW permits. The NSW permit was almost impossible to get (need pink slip, NSW address etc etc.)
