Looking at buying a 4.8 petrol Nissan Patrol but would like some help on the fuel economy, the truck is the right price but fuel usage is on issue.

Thanks for the input.

4wd monthly issue No.90
Quoted from the mag
They did a test drive, towing, sand and road and all up the figure for the 4.8L was "29.33L per 100km" in comparison, the 4.2iTD was 22L per 100km and the lil 3.0 was 20.78.

My brother has one and he is constantly returning figures of between 19 & 30 l per 100km.
They are not very good on fuel, but i guess if you can't afford to fill it up you probably can't affore the 50k+ price tag!

I have the 4.2iTD and i always use around 16l per 100km whether towing, sand, round town etc it doesnt change!

Hope this helps! and if ya buy one hope ya have shares in an oil company!!

Not much help, but the v8 cruiser is more ecomical, Mates on a run siting on speed limit, sealed roads and road tyres reguraly gets 13l 100ks not bad for two and a half ton. Robin is the man to ask on this forum about 4.8 patrols
Cheers Pete

If you can afford the fuel buy it, they are a great truck we have done over 100,000k of travel now in our tow either our Phoenix Van " 4.5k to Litre" or our camper trailer "5k to the Litre has not missed a beat twice across Australia and 3 time to NZ all we have had wrong is the wing mirrors fell of on the Tamami road a couple of years ago. we carry 215Lite in tanks and when needed fill a few JCans.

G'day Davo,

I've had mine since 2002 and I can say they are thirsty, my worst effort is towing a heavy trailer in soft sand 3.2Km/Lt, heavy towing about 4.5K/Lt much like Para 10. Recently on my trip to Sydney I got 6.5 but I was towing nothing and had no tinnie on top. But mate, you are focusing on probably the only negative of the vehicle, mine's an auto and I have not found it wanting eccept for a diff locker - got stuck towing the heavy trailer in a way that doesn't happen now with a locker.

Now you you listen to all these other guys looking to improve the performance of their vehicle and I can confidently say that you will not need to join them to look for more power, more cooling, more towing and more overall confidence of getting to the other side of your journey.

Kind regards
