Hi Mike, thought you might be interested in this, while I was away spending some
well earned RnR down at JohnR's place, his wife Heather told me that she had heard on the radio [ABC of course, so it must be true!] that the number one best seller on Oxfam's Christmas catalogue was .... you guessed it...GOATS!...I feel proud that "Getsme" is part of a world wide trend...obviously you and Bonz were aware of the amazing qualities Goats possess before they became trendy....
hope you and yours had a pleasant and safe Christmas and New Year, all the best for 2007.
cheers
Lyn

Awww this post bleats compassion and baaaaaaaaamony. So goats should be THE best seller, they are such a multi purpose farm animal.
Mildred should be proud, I know I am

F#@!!!!ing goats ! - Desert Makers !
Scourge of Oz - heaps of the vermin in WA - counted 68 goats in 60 min. while traveling the West Coast - I had seen numerous goats while traveling, and decided to count them one morning. There are MILLIONS of them, most of the does have twins, and occasionally triplets, they are thriving on the arid
woodlands, and common from the coast to far inland.
Sorry about the rant, (and pinching your topic) but the bloody things are eating our country out, and it appears that nobody gives a rat's @$$

Many stations would have long gone under without the goats to sell, they are hardy and dont take much looking after compared to sheep.
Cheers Pesty

Hi Lyn
I heard the latter half of that interview but missed the section about goats.
Ah yes Bonz and I know our goats... in times past not only were goats revered but dispensed Christmas gifts long before Coca Cola thought of jolly fat men - indeed, today the modern goat is fully fireproof:

A good New Year to you too Lyn and I hope it brings you all together ASAP.
Mike Harding
PS. Bonz: fancy a weekend away "with the boys" - nudge, nudge?
I suggest we don't mention anything to Mildred?

If either of you ever venture south of
Melbourne and want to drop in for a beer... phone first and make sure Mildred isn't here - she has a long memory!

Melbourne - Does Mildred have a PCA number?
Strewth this is boggling my mind....

I told my daughter about Getsme and I received one of those Oxfam goats for Christmas. Best present I got.
Now I will have to think of a name.
Cheers

I love the personality of goats. Over the years my sister had angora and cashmere goats in our backyard. They were good for fleece but didn't make good lawn mowers at all. They needed to be hand fed and when out and about only ate the most precious of plants.

I can't believe the number of goats from the Mid North SA to the Coopers Basin.
They are everywhere and in the most massive mobs I have ever seen and they love national parks.
I have good friends doing the goat thing on their $5/acre
Cobar station where the cost of woody-weed eradication makes running anything else cost-prohibitive except immediately after rain, but the number of goats seems to be sky-rocketing.
I guess it is not surprising - the billies are randy as, and any little baby nanny is fair game, and no sooner has nanny dropped one than she is pregnant again.
In green country it is very hard to eradicate them - in a drought you can trap them easily at water, so long as you build ultra-strong fences. I sense that this will become an even bigger problem and one recognised as such, real soon.
Now about the Getsme catalogue - sounds good - hopefully the Africans can keep them under control better than we can.
Cheers
Andrew.

Hi Andrew
yeah feral goats are a big prob, saw quite a few in the Flinders. I"m sure Getsme is doing fine, she's in Afghanistan not Africa - not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
