opposite lock newcastle.

and be weary, its pickup only

and their auctiosn are dodgey... You bid on something with 1 minute to go, so you can win, they add 1 hour or x hours to auction! so in reality it can go onfor weeks.

bargins now, day 1.. by this time next week - we could be millionares rodney...

Its all spelled out in the terms & conditions. Nothing "dodgy" about it. Its designed to stop "snipers" like those who bid on ebay in the last 2 seconds.

If you bid in the last few minutes on grays it extends the auction 10 minutes to allow others a fair chance to match it. Grays used to be cool when it was new cause there was some crazy cheap stuff on there when nobody knew about it. I've bought a pda and a swag of golf stuff on there for basically nothing. Too mainstream now and some stuff goes for more than rrp because people just will not concede defeat in an auction!!!

Whats wrong with bidding in last 2 seconds? Why do you need a fair chance to match it?
In any auction as far as I see it you bid once - the most your willing to pay for an item.
If you get outbid, then you lose nothing.
if you win - you win.

No.. its about making more money for Grays - good business idea really.

Why bid 23929 times and just increase the price, and as you admit -" people just will not concede defeat in an auction!!!" like the plebs you see outbidding each other on ebay - and thats on day 1 of a 9 day auction.. its pointless. Most pay more than retail for tons of things.

You only have to lead an auction at the end - not for 12 mths.

I sold some water craft stuff on ebay a little while ago. On twit paid $75.09 more than retail for one item, as others have said, because he just wanted to be the "winner". I was watching the auction for the last half hour as these two wallys were going for it! I know who really was the winner that day!!! ME!!!!!

There is nothing unethical about sniping its the only way to bid - especially with the right software.......

If you lose to a Sniper and didnt bid your maximum you have no right to complain.

I have bidded on Grayonline and bought there too. They were pretty good a few years back but the time to deliver takes ages. Would you believe it can take 10 days from close of auction to get them to think about the parcelling of your goods. Have had things sent to the wrong address because they didn't take care to remove old labels. That lost a computer til they nealy paid out the insurance but not quite.............. Three weeks later.....

Lesson one there, don't rely on easy delivery, not if you have a date for need!

I have had no such poor experiences on eBay.

My sentiment is the same. Used to be good but don't bother even checking the auctions anymore. There are a few items to watch in this auction, would have been nice to go into the shop before the liquidators...
Grays also does that 12.5% buyers "premium" (WTF!?) which can be pretty significant. I wouldn't say that the system is dodgy though. Like it says, it's the going, going, gone period, just like a normal auction, if there is still interest in the item it keeps going. It's fair for the seller (and subsequently grays gets a bigger cut), not so good for the buyer.
Sniping on ebay does seem like the only way to buy (almost everyone i know does it) but it probably is unethical. Losing to a sniper because you didn't bid your maximum isn't really fair because if you do maximum bids you expose yourself to false inflation by the seller (using false accounts and bid retractions).

but you dont, you still get the item for what you were willing to pay. you maynot get it CHEAP as youliked, but you still come in within your budget.

I agree with the Grays with the 12% fee on top ... lookin at their Navmans all at $555 each, then days to go, then fees and freight.. go to Strathfields and get one with warranty

Gee I'd really like those Hiclone's.

Pity it's pickup only.

How much fuel would I save on the trip back to Vic if I bought them and drove up to pick them up and fitted them for the trip home?

Hmmm..... OL Newcastle.

OL Mildura shut down several months ago.

OL Braybrook changed hands just before that

May be a trend here?

Hmmm, that explains a lot.
When I went past there a couple of weeks ago there was absolutely nothing going on, doors shut no owners vehicles, nothing.

Poor buggers, they where in an obscure industrial estate that nobody went into unless you absolutely needed too! Next to no passing trade, nothing.

Was it a 'newish' business in the area - eg did they open the store there recently - new owners??

Why would they have gone there, cheap rent?

Hi Truckster,
The business has been at that site for at least two years, they used to be somewhere else that totally escapes me at the moment.
Their original site was from memory somewhat better than their current one.

It's always been the same two guys whenever you go in their at either site.

I vaguely remember a mate saying the business has been for sale for ages.

That area's rent and the age of the building would have put it in the lower to middle end of the market.

Hi Truckster,

When OL opened in Newcastle there was one combined ARB/TJM store a little Out of Town.

In the last say 6 months the owners of the Out of Town store have opened a dedicated ARB store on a main road with excellent passing trade.
In the last 12 months a dedicated TJM has opened on the same main road about 4 or 5 km away.

So OL where really behind the 8 ball once they moved to where they died. Couple of nice blokes but in my opinion there install workmanship was poor too.
