I was up in Central West Queensland - Springsure, Emerald area in December and had a great time with the horse and cattle folks up there. First, a photography workshop at Goodliffe - a cattle station belonging to James & Liz Speed in the shadow of Santa Rosa Carnarvon National Park and the amazing rock formations there.

They have had camping visitors before, although are not fully set up for it, but the workshop was a hoot with heli-mustering and branding, making for great photography. I would say if you ask nicely they would extend their hospitality to good-natured folks.

The Long Paddock Gallery

We also did a Portraiture Clinic there with Liz and her daughter Mel, which was also a lot of fun:

The Cowgirls shoot

Finally, we were off to Emerald for a workshop with the Emerald Camera Club, which was also a lot of fun - one of the shoots was of this old queensland lady.

I understand there's been a fair bit of rain up there lately, but it was dry as an afghan camel-trader's fart pretty much all the way there and back, except the two times when it did choose to rain when it poured - near Toowoomba and then near Wanering on the way home.

The Central West has some beautiful country, and I highly recommend it.

This year, the Vivid Adventures crew will find themselves in the Kimberleys for most of May - that promises to be a wonderful and extravagant trip, a houseboat trip on the River Murray in August, and the Simpson Desert Cycle Challenge in September.

I hope we'll see you out there - if you see the mean green machine, don't forget to stop us and say hello - you wouldn't be the first.

Cheers, good shootin and wonderful light to all,
Andrew.

We wil be in the Kimberley in may from 9th to 30th. May finally get a chance to meet you in person. Sorry I haven't had a chance to chat with you yet. Been flat out. Maybe a chat around a campfire somewhere will occur first. I'll keep an eye out for the green machine.

G'day Dave,

The green machine departs Broome on 30th April returning 20th May - plenty of time to include Cape Leveque, the Mitchell Plateau, Mornington Wilderness Camp and all the usual places.

Starting up the GRRRRRR to Kunna and the Ord, then down the udda way to the Fitzroy Crossing.

Maybe we can do some things together - drop me an MM and tell me about ya group.

Cheers
Andrew.

Ah yes the Bush Mechanics. Great series. Lots of fun.

Shame I stuck an extra U in their skin names when I wrote that comment- can't change it now.

Cheers

You're right - pretty interesting and largely unexplored.

I need to do some serious hiking up there next time ...

I am guessing you meant Salvator Rosa. If so I spent a night in the park there Dec 2005. It was a delightful place and 8 degrees C at 9pm on Dec 19!!!

Yes ... Salvator Rosa, and Goodliffe section of the Carnavon NP.

I was there in 2006 and the temperatures were more like 38 degrees C - although by 9PM they might have got down to 28 ... this year was somewhere in between.

One thing is for sure, "we" are declaring more national parks than we can produce enough meaningful interpretation for, and more than we can afford to spend sufficient ranger wages on.

Cheers
Andrew who thinks he will have to compare notes with David on which indigenous groups he works with.

Andrew have you seen some of John Ricketts work? Ruth put up a post here on EO a couple of years ago about an exhibition they were having up at Birdsville which included his work.He has taken some fantastic photos of the outback.
