Springsure is located on the
Gregory Highway section of the Great Inland Way, 66 kilometres south of
Emerald and is the main centre for Bauhinia Shire. It sits in a valley framed by volcanic peaks, famous for local landmarks like
Virgin Rock,
Minerva Hills National Park, and the historic Federation Woolshed. There is a small
information centre, a hotel, a small grocery store, a free RV
camp at the base of the
Virgin Rock and 2 caravan parks. Trailers and caravans should not be towed into
Minerva Hills National Park due to narrow winding roads and some steep, rocky 4WD sections and lack of large
parking bays. No
camping is permitted in the
park - it is a
day use area only. Allow 2 hours to drive in and out and do some of the walks to lookouts etc.
