Google 3D - does it work in "Oz"

I've seen all this hoo-ha about Google 3D and I've done a bit of searching on it. But although I have a compatible 3D graphics card, I can't get Google 3D to show anything but "steamrollered" terrain.

I can't even get to show me the skyscrapers of New York in 3D - using the principle that whilst it may not be operational in "Oz", these things often work only in the USA!

Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone else get it to show terrain in 3D?

Yes to both :-)

Have you followed the instructions shown here ==> Site Link

If you are talking about Google sketchup 3D models, then read the info here ==> http://earth.google.com/userguide/v4/ug_mapfeatures.html#3dbuildings

Bilbo,

Firstly make sure you're using "google earth" and not "maps google"

Then make sure the tick the box on the bottom toolbar that says "buildings" for 3d buildings and/or "terrain" for hills/mountains

Australia doesn't have 3D buildings so keep trying in new york.

Good - that means I won't hurt myself when I jump out of my 2D office window :-)

In short, make sure "Terrain" is checked. Otherwise GE won't load any height data. Selecting a high value for Terrain Quality and a VE of 3 (both in 3D-View Preferences) will help, but will slow you down. Whatever you choose won't give any 3D effects out in the Centre!

To get an idea of how Google does things, go here:

Unfortunately, the weather wasn't good, and they only achieved part of what they had intended. Sydney CBD missed out!

Whooaah!

Thanks guys - now that's some serious geology I'm looking at.

It has also been a great help to put the "elevation exaggeration" at max in the Tools/Options/3D menu.

That's great.

Thanks again - you gurus, you,,,,,,,,
