I'm looking at buying this map system ,(Natmap Raster) after being given a demo by Des Lexic.
Just need a couple things answered if somebody out there uses or knows how it operates.
Can you print off what ever map you have on the computer screen.
Also can we install this on 2-3 computers or are you surposed to just down load into one computer.
Thanks in advance
Cheers Scoof. (SA)

You can just load the start up files and then insert map CD's as required,
to save drive space.

Scoof, suggest
sign up to the Yahoo
forum at
tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/OziUsers-L/
where you will get lots of detailed help.
I think you're asking if you can print just what's on the screen. Don't think so, but ask at the above site. Your computer may
well have a "print screen" facility enabled -
mine hasn't so I can't
check - this would allow you to do a screen dump.
If you're asking if you can print the whole map - You can save as a .jpg, but that's a serious file for big maps. Small ones yes, big ones not a good idea.

John
Multiple use - think it's ok to install on multiple machines, but not run them simultaneously. Again ask as above.

In regard to printing. I have NATMAP premium 2005.
Yes, I do print
mine for use the car.
My most able navigator prefers to use the map and the PDA GPS confirms her dead reckoning.
So I print out the 1:250,000 k maps at 1:200,000, so that 1cm = 2km.
(And the printing is a little larger for those navigators who won't wear their reading glasses.:o))
Now I do work at a place that has a large format printer, but I keep my prints down to A1 (895mm x 595mm) or B1 (707mm x 1000mm) for a strip map for ease of handling in the car.
I usually print from the mosaic to exactly cover the area I need.
PS - the 1:1,000,000 and 1:5,000,000 are rubbish.
At least 20 years out of date.
Don't even show the
Wivenhoe dam outside Brisy, or the 'new' highway leading north of
Brisbane. Both built in the 80s.
Not sure of the copyright situation, since most of the 1:250,000 series are avialable for free download over the web. I have copies installed on my PDA, work computer and
home computer. Feel since I am a single user, it it licensed to me, not my computer.

I have it on both the laptop in the car and the desktop at
home, I also have it instaled on the hard drive (C/) I have even gone to the trouble to burn DVD back-ups, just in case. By having it on the hard drive I dont need to have the disc in the cd-rom drive all the time. But this option does take up a lot of disc space.
Exellent product. Hema maps are good but are similar to NATMAP with contact and location details added, such as local permit details in aboriginal
reserves, service stn details & contact numbers etc.
As for printing you can do a screen capture and print, you will however just have whats on the screen.
If you are set up for "moving map", printing is an unnessisary option.
Hope this helps, on patrol.

Scoof,
I had little luck trying to print a map directly from NatMap Raster screen display.
It will only print on a third, to a half of an A4 sheet of paper.
Solution is to load it into OziExplorer and you can then print a full size sheet on A4, A3, (or whatever your printer will produce) of the image displayed on the screen.
There is no restriction on how many times you may load it.
I have it installed on the Notebook, the Desktop and also on my work PC.
Very good set of maps and work
well with Ozi.

I usually print the 'high quality option' from NATMAP, using 'print current view'.
Bit of a pain controlling scale.
As you say, Oziexplorer is easier for printing.

If you intend to travel around Aus with digital maps you will probably end up wanting the Hema 4wd Raster map set, which includes the Natmap 1:250k maps, not 100% sure if they're as up to date as the premium. The only downfall is that they're single maps (514 of them) rather than the seamless mosaic with the premium set. Although that saves some work when using them with a PDA.
I initially bought the Natmap premium for $110 then realised that you get all those maps with the Hema 4wd raster maps for $149 (got an exchange). Pretty easy decision economically and the quality is more than adequate.

Hi fruers ,thanks for Reply
At the moment I need a system to help me do my route survey's and Permit's from all the Gov body's eg, Transport SA,ETSA ,Telecom ,Powercor,SP Austnet, Vic Roads and Dept of Inferstructure (railways) and the like that sort of thing .
Also to help show my guy's were to go when organising deliveries and service calls.
Do you still think I would be better of with 4WD Raster.

Hi Scoof,
In that instance i would recommend the natmap premium maps. The 4wd raster is only useful if you're touring. For instance if you were going to
cape york you can load up one or two maps that cover the whole area and provide info on camping, sightseeing and such, heaps of info that isn't on the 1:250k maps, but they are often at a lower resolution like 1:1M.
In your case where you have a specific purpose there's probably not a lot of value in them for you.
If you go here you can click on the sample images and see what i'm talking about:

Sorry to make it confusing :).
