We are thinking of getting one of these - has anyone had any exoerience with them - if so what do you think of them?
Any tips or quirls with them -and can you use Oziexplorer on them?

Also getting a UHF radio - everyone is telling us the GME is the best - what's the general concensus??

Cheers,

Dian

Re the Cb aspect, the " general concensus", if there is such a thing in this forum, is to buy GME. This is a position that I also support from experience.

Dian,

I believe it gets down to what you feel comfortable with. (ie buying from a local reseller, or online if its cheaper, or there is no other choice.

Owners of GME units will tell you they are the best and owners of the Uniden will say the same.

For what it's worth I have had a Uniden UH100 for several years and have had no problems with it to justify upgrading. My mate has a GME but I preferred the specific push buttons on the Uniden as opposed to the rotary dial on the GME (at the time we both bought ours.)

I think it's another Toyota vs Patrol, Engel vs Waeco debate.

You need to decide where you are going to fit the radio. Do you have a spare DIN slot in the dash? This will be above, or below your car radio and both brands have a DIN sized unit to choose from.

If you don't mind ordering online, I can recommend Prestige Communications in Perth. They sell all the brands.

Yes GME is the best UHF, Icom is also as good , And If i've said it once or a hundred times Uniden might sound ok to owner but when your on the recieving end it sounds crap, hard to understand and muffled , I hear all the excuses about the antenna is not right , funny that, all Uniden owners in trucks don't have the antenna's installed correctly, In my job I am out on the highways working with and talking to truck drivers all day , every truck heading the opposite direction I talk to the driver , I know when he is using a Uniden , I worked with another Pilot in Qld and he had a Uniden , he was almost unreadible.

Oh yeh and you will love the Garmin GPSMAP 298 , as for adding Oziexplorer , I would presume so , but ask your retailer, ????

Thanks for the advice - I guess Bill will have to have these new toys!

We're off to Brisbane at the end of the month for the 4WD & Tinny & Tackle show so will try them out on the way.

Cheers,

Dian
