My son had his GQ broken into yesterday and stuff stolen.
He has bought a 'new' quarter window from a wrecker to fit.
Buggered if we can work out how to get the bottom frame from the old one out and the new one in.

Anyone done this and have some hints?

It's OK. We got it done. What a PITA of a job that is.
Not as bad as the girlfriend's purse, money, drivers licence, credit cards, mobile phone along with some video and lighting equipment from my son's work.

B@stards. Like to come across them while I've got a pick handle in my hands.

Na,

Aluminium Baseball bat is better. Doesn't produce any shock, you can use it two handed and gives that satisfying "thunk".

Know he feels, some mongrel used a screw dirver on the door lock & pinched PDA, ipod, camera etc.

Like the idea of a baseball bat.

Cheers

Need to attach some razor wire to the inside so it cuts the crapper out of them and hopefully slits there wrists at the same time the low life scum bag/s. It has only ever happened to me once so know how you feel. Might pay for him to get an alarm fitted with some shock sensors/glass breakage. Any thing they see they will try and flog, I even leave the glove box open on mine now so if they are looking inside they can see nothing worth floging. I have the cd stacker and amp etc hidden behind the back seat. GPS is the latest thing getting floged by the dozen and sold to porn shops. Steve M

Gidday Norm.

Do you have any photos? I might be able to offer advice then.

With 1/4 windows there are often fasteners concealed behind weather strips/door frame seals.

Usually you would need to dismantle the rear windup window track in order to get reasonable access to the 1/4.

If the glass is in a clamp style bracket (similar to an aluminium window) you can soak the whole piece in some warm soapy water then (with a bit of elbow grease) slide the metal piece off. The reverse applies for installing it, or a light spray of silicone spray or WD-40 to help it on.

We used a rubber mallet to move the frame around when I was in the industry. Toughened glass can take quite a bit of punishment before breaking, but I wouldn't recommend you do it if you don't know what you're doing.

If you are going to use a screwdriver - keep it away from the glass, particularly the edge. The edge is toughened glass' Achilles Heel. I've seen it pop with the lightest tap of a screwdriver. :-((

The other option is to take it to a reputable windscreen place. You'd be amazed how quickly they can do it for a few buck$.

Good luck!
