Need some help here !!!

I have installed the Ozi on the Laptop.

Intsalled the Explorist XL drivers on the laptop.

Installed the HEMA maps

Turned on the GPS and turned on NMEA

I cannot see anything on the laptop. I am looking at the map but there is no GPS fix on it.

Any ideas as to where I am going wrong ?

Cheers

Open OziExplorer, click on File / Configuration / GPS tab , look in GPS make , and select Magellan, look in GPS model and select "other Magellans" at the bottom of the list

Doug,

Yeah , I have done that, thanks

Still no joy !

I can fire up the NMEA Simulate inside Ozi to see what should be happening but when I turn it off and try to connect the moving map I get nothing going on.

Incorrect - in configuration (GPS Model) it must be set to Magellan USB. You will then have to cycle through the com ports to find which one is being used by the GPS. This assumes you have turned on Nmea output on the GPS (Menu - ADV features - Communications - NMEA Data Com. - choose V2.1 GSA)...and that you have latest version of OziExplorer ( some older versions do not support newer usb magellans)

You can suss out what com port is being used when in nmea mode by looking on PC at Settings - Control Panel - System - Hardware - Modems - Magellan explorist should be on list - double click on this to get properties - click on modem tab - at top it will tell you what com port is being used (eg Com 4) - use that setting for OziExplorer in configuration under COM tab.

When you are happy with that click on "Start Nmea Communications with GPS" under the moving map tab in OziExporer.

Cheers

Jason,

You need to ensure the configuration settings of both the GPS and OziExplorer match.

With the GPS plugged into your com port (usb?) click start - control panel - system - hardware - device manager - ports.
This will show you what port has been allocated by windows for use by the GPS.
also check the baud rate, parity and stop bit settings as identified below.

Then in OziExplorer, click on File - Configuration - Com and check the Com Port setting matches what the GPS is using. (1, 2, 3,4, etc.)
Also check that the Upload/Download and NMEA settings are set to 4800 baud (or whatever the Explorist can use. 4800 is fast enough for com speed between the GPS and Laptop.
Usually, baud rate - 4800, parity - none, stop bit - 1 is the standard settings.

If the above is still too vague, the OziExplorer Web site has excellent reference documentation.

Select OziExplorer on the left, then click on GPS FAQ and look for:-
Configuring OziExplorer to work with your GPS.

Good luck Jason.
