G-Day

Planning a trip to visit outlaws on Kangaroo Island early July 2007. could members
give some input re: most caravan friendly route to South Australia from SE - QLD.
So far we have only towed the Van on small trips up to North Shore /Teewah ect.
My business commitments only allow us Four Weeks for the trip.
Proberly spend Two Weeks in South Australia and the rest of the time, driving
there and comming home.
The cook wants to stay in caravan parks while travelling, and we dont want to
book ahead if we can help it.

Cheers

I would recommend using the ferry unless you have a very long snorkel.

Anyways, it really depends on what you want to see... do you want the outback (Goondi, Back of Bourke etcetera) or do you want to see the coast (Sydney, Melbourne et al).

How far do you want to travel in a day?

Cheers
Andrew.

Hi Andrew

Thanks for your professional advice re: THE SNORKEL, I might hire yours if
your tour group is not using it.

We have not decide which way to go as yet, either take the Pac hwy or go in
land, thats why I thought some experienced caravan towing members might
shed some light on the subject. PS. (STILL LEARNING)

Cheers

Daza.

Well for me I would do this...

But you might want to add Cobar in there to avoid the dirt ...

Easiest way when towing is to go inland and follow the Newell highway. Then from West Wyalong Via hay. This will give the flattest route but not the most scenic.

Daza, you may want to book the ferry, sometimes you can get on others you will need to book...Go here: Site Link
have a look at smart trip, fill out the details, options etc that you want and have a play around with it.. gives you distances, times and a map of dubious usability but it impresses grey nomads at roadside stops...

G'day Daza, other might disagree, but if you want a caravan friendly route, then I'd be travelling via Broken Hill, down to Burra, then across to Morgan, Blanchetown, Swan Reach, Walker Flat then across the Murray on the ferry, travel toward Adelaide then turn left (signposted) to Mannum, Murray Bridge, Strathalbyn, Goolwa, Victor Harbor then onto Cape Jervois and onto the ferry to KI. No major hills, no city related traffic to deal with. Very scenic and lots of beaut small towns along the way. Bon Voyage

If you have rellies in K.I. consider leaving the car & caravan in storage at Cape Jervis (there is a facility there, check with the ferry operators - in advance) and camping on the rellies lounge floor and using their car on the island. Return ferry fares for car + caravan are quite expensive. Also, residents of K.I. get special fares for themselves & immediate family, I'm sure they will know the details.
