Hi Peter
You are right to take offence at today’s Sunday Mail article. However, your anger should be directed to the paper for deliberately mis-quoting Larissa, and putting words in her mouth. Larissa did not, and would not call any driver "ignorant". Nor do the Queensland Greens call for a “tax hike” on 4WDs. This is the second time in two weeks that a news limited paper has deliberately misled the public about the Queensland Greens’ policies.

Larissa has demanded a retraction from the paper. The text below is what Larissa has sent to the Editor in response to the article:

"I did not call four wheel drivers "ignorant", nor have the Queensland Greens called for a "tax hike on 4WDs" as reported in the Sunday Mail on page 25, 25th February 2007. I said that people may not always think about the environmental impacts of their everyday lives, but that all of our choices do make a difference. The Queensland Greens policy is to give incentives to people who opt to drive smaller, alternative fuel or hybrid cars, as well as to encourage people to use public transport where possible. We ask all drivers, in both big and small cars, to do their bit for the climate by thinking about whether there are other transport options open to them for each trip they take."

I hope this clarifies the position of the Queensland Greens for you. If News Limited reporters would find an ethical and professional use of their time, we would all be better informed.

If you have further questions regarding Qld Greens policies, please don't hesitate to contact Ian Gittus - coordinator@qld.green.org.au

Regards,

Kerri Browne

Thanks, and well done for finding and posting that Squizzy.
This is the reason I never have, and still don,t buy or read newspapers, they are full of nothing but oversensationalised crap. (as is TT and ACA)
When it comes to newspapers believe nothing of what you read and only half of what you see.

yes well done Squizzy. I submitted the original post and like Pezza rarely buy the fishwrappers. Most of my news comes from SBS, ABC and the Internet - where you definitely have to watch the sources. I was walking the dog and realized we were running out of scrap paper.
I guess it was mission accomplished for Rupert's Rag - make the Greens look like fringe loonies. Sucked me in, so thanks.

Yes good work Squizzy. Personally I wouldn't buy a newspaper twice in the one week let alone pick up on something like that.

I find every time I read a newspaper I spend more time trying to work out the bias and prejudice in the story and who benefits from that point of view, than actually reading the story! 90% of the time newspapers are propaganda machines for whoever pays them the most.

ABC is the only way for me.

Well to all those who complain About 4WD.
All 4WD enjoy our Country, except for a few we won't bother with.
When there was over 900 People & 300 Hundred 4WD at the Fraser Island Clean & collected 75 M3 Tonnes Rubbish left behind by people who don't care about our Country.
Gee its a pity the news papers & others don't get behind these type of stories instead of being so negative. Included some green

Well I had my say

How right you are......

But I wonder how many clubs tried to gather publicity for the event? Maybe someone needs to get the ball rolling!

Cheers

Irresponsible for newspapers and TV shows to do that. Seems like the Greens have a very important message to get through to the wider community. That driving efficient cars and taking responsibility for your own energy consumption is the way to go, and News Ltd try to spin some rubbish into it.

No wonder people get confused about important issues such as climate change. It's just another example of some groups deliberatley changing facts for their own gain (or for the gain of their friends).

How many advertising dollars do oil companies spend in News Ltd papers? Compare that to advertising that green groups do. It's obvious that News Ltd are trying to get everyday people to blame 4wds for high oil consumption, rather than the hundreds of thousands of other cars also using dinofuels.
