Hello All,

I have just purchased an extended touring tent and need to put together some sort of awening for the front of it.

Nothing that I have found commercially available seems to be any good so looking at having something made up myself.

Has anyone had any successes with this? Leasons learnt? Design tips?

Basically I want something that gives weather protection from the entrance and can be used for cooking etc.

Thanks

Dave

PS - and no I dont want an Oz Tent :)

You didn't say what type of tent but I assume it is a centre pole, square base type like Southern Cross brand. We had one a few years back and could not think of a simple way to do what you have in mind so we sold it. It was too hot inside anyway.

G'day Dave
What brand tent?? If S/Cross, they can supply an awning- or if you want a custom job, they can also supply the zipper part that mate up with the one on the tent..
And I got my local canvas guy to make up an awning to my specs.

Thanks for the responses so far guys.

Signman - the tent is a COI but similar design to the Southern Cross extended ones.

So - what did you end up with your custom job? Something unique or along the lines of the ones that Southern cross sell?

Dave,

Where abouts are you? I have a COI Leisure Tornado and searched high and low for the now discontinued canvas awning from the manufacturer. In the end, I had a 6m x 2m canvas awning with 6 eyelets made up at a local tarp manufacturer. He even managed to match the zipper to the one the tent comes with. Cost me $130 - I supplied my own canvas.

I'm in Sydney by the way - let me know if this is of any use and I can supply the contact details.

Cheers,
