Does anybody know the amount of fuel required, and how long it takes, to travel from Tjukayirla on the Great Central Road to Parnngurr at the south of Rudall River Nat Park?

(6 cyl diesel 4x4 Toyota; travel late April)

Thanks,
Al

Late April? I'll be there in mid-June and I'm pretty nervous already about all the water that will be around.

My plan is from Parnngurr to Carnegie (about 879kms); I'll be taking more than 280litres of fuel, to allow for changes in plan, deviations etc, not to mention having to purchase less fuel at Carnegie. I'm allowing up to two weeks for that leg of the journey.

If I cannot get permission to travel the Prenti Downs road from Carnegie, then I will probably go via Tjukayirla.

Hi Equinox, Do you intend to take the track from Well #9 down to Carnegie (Glenayie, Mt Moore) ? My Hema map says that is a private road, is that correct ?

No Kiwi Kia, I'll be driving practically the whole Talawana Track east to Windy Corner. Then south and west (more or less) along Gary Highway and Gunbarrel.

The Glenayle Road is not a public access route as far as I know, and is on Pastoral Land so technically it would be a private road.

Cheers

Not sure about now, but for many years Glenayle permitted travellers to drive between the homestead and Well 9 for a $20 road maintenance fee - we used it in 2001. Unless too many rat finks drove past the honesty box then I am sure it will still be available.

With the cyclones heading inland in that direction I hope the tracks are open in that area. I'd be checking as many sources as I can starting with Exploroz. When we went it was closed north of Well 35 as there had been a couple of seasons of cyclones dumped in the area and there was a giant lake north from well 35.

Ummmmm...yesss...wellll....Here is an estimate.

In 2006 I used 280lts of diesel from Tjukayirlja Roadhouse to Newman via the David Carnegie, Eagle Hwy, some unspecified country, Georgia Bore, Talawana Track. I was towing a trailer.

I used 5.5lts/km(18.81lts/100km) for 1540km and that included a long stretch of Low Range driving.

You could do the run in 4 days but 5 days would be better. From where you meet the CSR to the Parnngurr turnoff you will encounter the worst corrugations in the whole of Australia

From all accounts you may be pushing your luck in late April with damp track conditions due to the cyclones and other rain over the past few months

Good luck

Cheers
