Wanted to give this
feedback to OziExplorer direct but can't find anywhere on their site where you can email them!!
The Natmap Premium Raster map of Australia is just over 3GB in size. OziExplorer site says "The Mosaic map is too big to use in OziExplorerCE (it is 3GBytes in size)". I've got a 4GB card & have loaded both the mosaic map of Aust and the Destinator road map & it all seems to work fine with no lag at all. Is there any gliche that I haven't detected yet??

It is a big file. If you have natmap premium why not transfer over the strips instead of the full mosaic. Will zoom and pan faster. Oz is in 6 strips from what I remember.

Drew,
You only need the 8 250 K maps Zone49 through Zone56.
The img2ozf program will extract the maps you select, convert them to a format readable by OziExplorer CE and also include the associated .MAP files.
Be prepared though. If you select all 8 files to convert it will take the best part of 24 hours, even with the CF card loaded into a card reader. Probably even longer if doing it via "ActiveSync"
I don't believe the full mosaic map will give you the detail of the 250 K maps.

Drew
An ecw map is converted to ozf format to work on a PDA with OziCE. At times there are problems because of the size of the mosiac raster map.
The strip maps 250k are identical to the mosiac map. There are however 8 of them. Because they are smaller files it is easier to convert them.
I also have the Hema maps and Westprint Outback Tracks and would recommend them.

A couple of points on this matter I'd like to put in my sixpence worth on.
The NATMAP Raster Premium for the 1:250K scale maps can be used in the either in the strips which represent the 8 zones that Australia is divide into, each zone being 6 degrees longitude wide, or in the mosaic form which covers all of Australia in one file. Both products are identical as far as content are concerned. They come from the exact same source and are just presented differently.
The other point is this. I have found that when using moving map, if I use the full 250K mosaic, my PDA struggles to keep up with the movement of the vehicle because it has to refresh such a huge file that they eventually bog down and the system hangs. I run a HP IPAQ HX4700 PDA. To overcome this you can use the Premium in Zone format and only load the zones you need on a trip. This too can slow the processing down but not as much as using the mosaic
I've gone one step further. I export areas of interest to me on a particular trip from the Raster Premium Mosaic and split them in either areas to cover one day or even down to morning and afternoon chunks. I have no problem with lag when I do this and I keep my data storage down as
well.

interesting .. i am also using a HP IPAQ HX4700 PDA and I have absolutely no lag at all
hence i wonder why i would bother loading the individual map zones (which in total are a greater size than the single mosaic)
