I guess this info is hiding somewhere on the forum but can someone help me with the date which the CDMA network is due to shut down?. Or is the jury still out on that?
Thanks

There was an announcement by Telstra about 1 month ago saying that it is phasing out CDMA in Jan 08.

Just found this site " target="EOF" class="lbg">Site Link that states
Telstra hoped to start shutting down the CDMA network in January 2008. "because at that point of time we feel that we will have provided, one, a better service and, two, we will have provided equal if not better coverage in the marketplace vis-a-vis or for any current CDMA customer

I have a feeling that means coverage by populaton, not coverage by area or service :o)
Here we go again.

January 2008, according to Telstra's chief executive Sol Trujillo.

But they will need approval to do so by the relevent Telecommunications Authority .

There are now ads offering free upgrades ??? to next G. I'd get in before this "Deal" closes. The coverage area for Next G looks about the same as CDMA but the signal will not be as strong - or so I'm told. The emphasis with next G is the "commercial" aspects of the service, phone calls are getting cheaper but Telstra are keen to push the "video" calls and Foxtel on your phone. No doubt some of the high flyers will find such servces essential - I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO MAKE PHONE CALLS...

Hi Honest

I was a bit suspicous so I have now checked 3 other CDMA phones and it appears that it is area dependant.

Feb 08 is Melb , another one has service message with 31 august 08 for a phone in RYE (50km south of melbourne).

Perhaps its area related as towers are closed down or perhaps its related to where you took out the phone contract.

The mystery deepens ........ Maybe its Telstras organizational abilites at there finest
