Hi I want to get a new phone to replace the CDMA phone I have .
Can any one recommend a good flip phone.
I have not been in town yet to even look at the selection.
All I need is a camera phone with big button's and numbers so I can see it easily must be getting old.LOL
I have heard Next G is the way to go.
I'm not in a city that's why the choice originally was CDMA.(country SA)
Any help will be appreciated

Not much to pick from yet, but seeing as CDMA is earmarked for extinction in early 2008, next G will be the only way to go....
I'm in the same boat as you, but I'm holding off to see if any more phone makers come on board !!

Check this thread for Samsung 701
I wanted big letters and this was the best.
Telstra gave me a free handsfree kit as per above thread.
Very happy with unit , the only thing is that the Bluetooth needs to be activated manually for hands free to work.
No big deal and it cost nothing.

Scoof,
I signed up for a 3G phone, what a mistake that was I'm now having a battle with Telstra to either get back onto the CDMA network or transfer me over to next G at no cost, holding my breath at this time I found someone who's trying to sort things out. They gave me one option but it was going to cost me $280 buckaroonees, no thanks, try again so they are. I'm still waiting for a call back, only happened today so I'm ever hopeful.

Hi Des ,
He hasn't showed this week, he usually calls in for a coffee at work here.
Must be too busy.
I'm not going to rush into it. I was thinking of the wife and I getting the same phones this time so we don't have to worry about taking different chargers away with us all the time .

Yer not related to Des Lexic are you???
Ring Telstra and start asking dumb questions about NextG. They might just offer you a new phone, the ZTE F850( I used have a Fiat 850...probably just as powerful). They did this with me and I have a new phone for free with all the mod cons(or rather more than I can handle..lol)
Cheers

Like Willy, I got a Next G phone this week, the ZTE850, for free on changing my old CDMA as I was having trouble with the handset I had. They waived the remainder of my CDMA contract as I "Migrated" to nextG (without even leaving the country! LOL) Found out today that there is little covergae between
karoonda and Loxton where CDMA was previously pretty good. So much for being just as good.

Scoof,
I've done some research as I was also considering a changeover.
Telstra's NextG enabled 850 brand is hard to beat at present.
It is a "flip" phone, comes with Bluetooth capability, has a modest camera and best of all, is one of the few phones I've found that support an external aerial connection.
The hands-free Car kit can be bought separately for under $200, or if you select the $30 per month plan, is included.
Buggered if I know why I'm "promoting" Telstra, but there you go.

Oh!
One of the other features of the Telstra 850 is the easy to read screen and larger buttons.
Nokia, the main brand name not currently offering a NextG compatable phone will not have models available until the second half of the year, so I am led to believe.

I should say that I am about to buy a ZTE F850 as that seems to be the only one with a direct aerial connection and a car cradle. If there is something else coming soon with these options I could wait a bit, just like to know what sort of time frame and what brands.

My CDMA died on Wednesday night and so I went to the local Telstra
shop on Thursday. I now have a new nextG phone - cost zero.
The phone is a ZTE F851. ZTE Corporation is China's largest listed telecommunications manufacturer founded in 1985.
I am happy with it so far but I have only had it for 1 day. I wonder how long it will last.
