The tech specs for the new GME MT410 and MT410G are on their website and make interesting reading . These EPIRBs are for personal use as opposed to the larger MT401 beacons which are designed for boat/vehicle mounting . They are the 406MHz equivelant of the pocket sized 310 beacons .

Unfortunately , the design is for boaties , and is bigger than the 310 and it won't fit in the shirt pocket . Even hanging off the belt it is too big and heavy for convenience .

Wouldn't be too difficult to design a pocket sized EPIRB but the 4WD market can't compare to the boating numbers . We will have to wait for a manufacturer looking to fill in the niche markets . Breitling squeezed a 121.5 beacon into a wrist watch but apart from the obsolescent frequency the $US9,000 was a bit steep .

They are out there and coming down in price. I would wait a little longer though.

But... Sand Man... what price the safety of your family? If these wondrous devices were $200,000 would it not be worth mortgaging your home in order to ensure the survival of your loved ones? How could you even consider putting a price of their safety?

Aha,aha,aha,

I wasn't around when Bourke and Wills said what they said, but then again the analogue devices are still "alive" and being monitored. I'll wait until close to "shutdown" time, for a more compact solution and maybe the offer of an "upgrade" deal.

Until then, my little KTI MINI SAT-ALERT RB3 will sit in my "safety case" along with other stuff, in case it's ever required.

Cheers Guys!

Beware, some versions of the marine epirbs automatically activate when imersed in water and some 4wd's get a bit wet inside sometimes :-))
The small shirt pocket epirbs are not always water tight so it may be best to have a marine version anyway (I have an MT400)

I contacted GME about these last week as they are meant to be out now, however, they say they should be out in April.

Quote: "MT410 are due at this stage for release in April. We are not sure as to when in April they will be released."

They are waterproof and designed for "outdoor adventurer, bushwalker, 4x4 enthusiasts...".

Searching around on the net, the street price initially seems to be about ~$400 for the non-GPS version and around ~$570 for the GPS version.
