Planning yet another trip back to FNQ and am looking at doing the trek from Dimbula through Mt Mulligan to Mt Carbine. Can anyone give me a heads up on what the road through here is like and also is it worth a day or two staying at Tryconnell?

Thanks
Pete

The road is very good, a bit windy past Mt Mulligan. Good camp and tour (at cost) through Tyconnall Mine, but a better camp site at Thornbrough a couple of k past the turnoff.

Great camping at the dam on Mt Mulligan Stn, worth a couple of days, with a walk up the escarpment and around the old mine and cematery.

Tony - is this a commercial enterprise or do I have to contact the station manager?

G'day Pete.
Tony responded nicely. That country is just SO rich: and concentrated.
Go and look with an open plan: mate, it's a rabbit warren there, just feel happy to back out if Plan A looks dodgy. (ps. take a hand winch, or heaps of caution, eh.) JH.

West from Emerald is Ungella and a road/track to Collinsville. An interesting drive.

Sounds like a plan Neil. We intend leaving here around 4 Aug taking it pretty slowly. Spending a few days visiting a nephew in Emerald and then on up north. I have 3 x sisters up there - 1 in Mossman, 1 in Smithfield and the other in Edmonton - so will be catching up with them as well. Don't intend coming back to the grind until mid-September.

Cheers
Pete

Hi Patrol22.

When you get to Dimbulah ask at the Post Office.
Her Husband drives road trains out to all cattle properties and so know a lot of go tracks and camping spots. One of which follows to old train line goes in somewhere around Petford and comes out around Mt Garnet, I know its in the wrong direction.
