Uh-huh......?
The bad new folks is that it's your fault that your local DSE or Jaycar staff don't have a clue. Yep that's right.
Everyone wants products at
rock bottom prices so the retail chains reduce their training to zero and hence expect 16 year olds to learn "on the job". Would you go into Coles and expect the guy putting out the vegies to be able to give you an explanation on the best cooking method of pumpkin with Estonian wines? Then why do you expect DSE members to know anything more than price, part number and where a product is?
I spent many years as a teenager and during my uni. days working for DSE and then completed a degree in electronics engineering and I now work in the field professionally. For a good proportion of the time I was at DSE I knew what I was talking about because I had external training, but the reality is most of the staff don't know and why should they?
1. The general public is stupid. I can clearly state this from many years of serving idiots who believe that they are going to get "professional" knowledge from a high street
shop staffed by teenagers where they pay the minimum price. If you believe this you are a member of the great ignorant unwashed.
2. If you want professional advice then pay the money to get it from someone who knows what they are talking about, but you may pay more than DSE.
3. Jaycar is just the same they merely have a narrower range of products and they select staff who they believe have an external interest - no not professionals, normally idiots who think that car audio constitutes professional knowledge.
