Wishing to start my own web page for a trip around Australia next year, mainly for friends and family or anyone else interested in our travels. I would be posting photos and a diary to my site. It has been suggested to me that I go to My Space or is there a site similar for travellers, or should I just have my own page? Does anyone have any information?

Most Internet Service Providers allocate you sufficient space on the Host Server, to have your own Blog. (Hosting space)
Why not get in contact with your ISP and see what they advise.
This would be the cheapest option and may be all you need.

This place is intended for just such a purpose:
www.traveleor.com/
It has it's good and bad points.
You could also set up a Yahoo Group or an MSN Group (I think Google do them too now?) which has a number of advantages over the website - maybe?
Or you could just set up a free website here:
www.web1000.com/

I'd suggest a blog or photoblog on one of the many sites available ... some for nothing.

Fishing Barb
Just went through all this.
We use Frontpage to build the site and use Servers Australia to host the site. They cost $59/yr (very cheap) and provide plenty of storage space and traffic space. Their servers are in Australia (so faster) and is the most economical package I could find without using overseas hosts.
We registered our website name with namecheap.com. Cheap and
well respected site.
see www.rovingoz.com for our site. It's still not quite finished.
Simple once you get a handle on frontpage. There is a yahoo
forum for frontpage users.
Cheers
John
