Aldi has just advertised a medion PNA315 gps navigator for $349. Has anyone had any experience with these units. They carry 2007 Navteq software

They are excellent value as a street navigator, they are Windows CE os, but the actual software is GoPal & the mapping is by Navteq which is better in regional areas than Sensis Whereis.
GPS chipset is SiRF III, this alone makes them a very good buy, but be warned, get to Aldi early, people will queue for them.

thanks Shaker
I dont need to find my way to
Windy corner, mainly wanting it for street navigation in
Brisbane and country.... not out in the sticks, though I understand that would be a high priority for some travellers. It says in brochure map material completely preinstalled so I imagine that means no loading map from pc and no updating maps?? Seeing as maps are fully loaded I am assuming additional memory is not needed and it is just a case of plug in and go. I am not sure how they are operated ie touch screen etc. Can map updates be obtained and at what cost?? I am guessing this is only a minor thing most of the time as only a very small percentage of the info would ever change. Councils and Mainroads do not normally move streets. Further comment would be appreciated. I understand buying from Aldi may be an issue but truth is more expensive units probably come from same factory. Medion has been around Europe for many years.
regards K

If you believe in Aldi's "no frills - no trills " electronic product buy it. I personally wouldn't. All products from Aldi have limited warranty to one year, and you can't prepay more. If something goes wrong, you will find, no one will repair it for you!!!
I have bad experience, when it comes to this. For $349,~ is very expensive mistake!

Purchased a Medion Laptop computer from Aldi almost 4 years back now. Had to queue up but service was great.
Blew up the hard disc in the first month. Contacted Medion in
Sydney. Sent unit to repair
shop in
Brisbane as directed. Repair
shop advised the it would take three weeks to get replacement parts. Spoke to Medion
Sydney and had a replacement unit at my door next morning. Has been a good unit despite being bounced around in the camper trailer for 25000km
Medion are German firm but use
well known components.. Kevin
