Hi, I'm after the impossible please - a high amp hour deep cycle battery which will fit in a 23.5 cm tray. The best I can find so far is a Fullriver AGM HGL60 (60ah) can anyone suggest anything with a higher amp hour rating?

Don't suggest a bigger battery tray, even I can work that one out 8-)

The tray is small to fit in the available space in an NM Pajero WITHOUT having to move the black pot and ABS brakes.

Yes, I have duplicated this question in the Pajero Forum.

If anyone abuses me for asking the impossible I'll then ask which fridge I should buy - that should keep you all busy for a while!

(Didn't mean it, I already have a fridge. The brand is .............not telling, but it doesn't need much power)

Thansk

or failing that, and with slower fingers, ....Thanks

Don't know too much about these guys as I use Optima and Exide Marine but there are heaps of industrial manufactures of batteries that use this technology in applications where the battery needs to be mounted in odd angles and positions. Forklift batteries / etc

Have doubts as to if there is a higher amp hr deep cycle that will fit your tray , thing is that the Fullriver AGM HGL 60 is NOT just a deep cycle as such ,it is actually a hybrid that gives you the recharge capabilities of a standard starter and the discharge capabilities of a deep cycle so you end up with a better compromise than a dedicated deep cycle be it an AGM or wet cell.

hello greydemon,

We use and sell a brand of AGM battery called "POWERSONIC" and we have never had any problems with then, they use them in alot of OEM applications like wheel chairs battery back up systems.

The PG12V75 is small in size for the output, they use a N50 casing.

Here is a link www.powersonic.com.au/

Go into the product list on the left hand side of the screen and when the next page opens, go to the top of the page and hit the "Enter here" hilite.

I think you will be suprised with what they do.

Regards Richard

Mate,

You have just discovered what I did some time ago.
An AGM battery has a relatively large footprint in comparison to a wet cell deep cycle.

So, you are limited to a 60 A/h capacity battery or thereabouts, or settle for a wet cell battery which is another compromise, as you are no doubt aware.

This was one of the reasons I chose a portable battery system.
The auxiliary AGM battery in my vehicle gives me about 55 A/h . I just cannot fit anything much larger in the second cradle and dont want to revert to a wet cell battery. Overall, this gives me a reasonable capacity while travelling.

The "Thumper" gives another 75+ A/h capacity and is also an AGM style.
This is my main power source for the fridge when not travelling and can be charged from the in-car charger, or a solar panel. It sits in the rear cargo space, next to the fridge.

If using a AGM, why not put it in a wheel well in the back, less crowded under the bonnet + bigger battery in the back??.

That would be my choice too. I had a Fullriver 120a/h AGM in the back of my old Patrol wagon and it now resides in the cargo box on my dual cab Patrol. It's where it SHOULD be anyway......all the gear it runs is in the back of the vehicle. Charging is taken care of via a Arrid TwinCharger, so you don't have to have an overly heavy cable from the main starter battery and finally, AGMs don't like to be under the bonnet where all the heat is...(although I acknowledge there are blokes on this site who vow and declare that heat does not affect their under-bonnet-mounted AGM batteries; long term I believe the heat WILL shorten their otherwise extensive life span of about 10 years).

I put an Optima in the 3rd row seat well in my previous NM. Ran the battery cable from the main battery to the rear though the firewall to a Pirhana isolator mounted under the passenger seat to the battery box in the rear seat well. Closer to all the gear it ran eg. fridge etc. the heavy duty cable supplied with the Pirhana was long enough.

Many thanks everyone, this has given me lots of useful leads and good advice, much appreciated. If any of you come across a green automatic Pajero with a flat battery in the Pilbara in July please stop and help - it means that I got the battery right but the wiring wrong !

Nick, Just had another idea you can put a AGM on its sides or upside down and it will work.
