Does anyone know the availability of after market gear for a Subaru Forrester eg: springs, lift kits, sump guards, LSD, lower ratio gear sets etc in Adelaide

If you look in the may edition of 4x4 Austrailia, youll see in the back of the mag a little feature on Suba extreme, i think thats the rite name. They are based in Qld, but you may be able to get in contact with them to source another distributor/manufacturer in your area, or you may be able to order over the phone. Just an idea, and i hope it helps.
Try this number: 5428 6364

The little truck they have featured has a tonne of gear like 80mm lift, front and rear bars, roof racks, jerry can holder etc etc. Looks very tough!

Go to the overlander forum and ask Spurry Moses this question. He has done or is going to do most of these mods. He is based in Sydney but may know the best places to go.

Paul,
A very good place to start would be your local Subaru 4WD club, there are several (Vic, NSW, Qld, SA, and I think WA) that I know of, and many members would have done what you want to do, or try a search engine with "Subaru 4wd lift kit" or something similar. I used to own an MY81 with lift kit made by a company known as "Scorpion". An afternoon, two or three mates, and a slab of beer usually sees the job done without any major hassles. I don't believe the underpinnings of the Subarus have changed that much.

Might be a good place to start:

Good luck

The new website for the Victorian Subaru 4WD club is now: www.subaru4wdvic.com.au.

Also, a company called Combined Servicing in Clayton (Melbourne/Dandenong) manufactures lift kits for most subies, including Foresters.

Hope it all helps

Paul,

Try Subareck on the north side of Adelaide. I think they have a bit to do with the Subaru 4wd club, and stock the aftermarket stuff you're after.

If you want to get in contact with the Adelaide club, http://www.subaru4wd.asn.au/, Their meetings are first friday of each month at Adelaide High School.

The Subaru Club in SA have at least one modified Forester. We met up with the Club at Lake Everard last year for the eclipse. Subaextreme and Scorpion in Qld are Subaru specialists. Fulcrum/Kings for springs
SA Club http://www.subaru4wd.asn.au/subiesite1.html
http://www.users.bigpond.com/subaxtreme/
http:/www.fulcrumsuspensions.com.au
http://www.scorpionsubaru.com/

I have kept my Forester fairly standard - Suspension - Fulcrum/Kings springs, 25 mm lift + 30% rate.
Sump guard - Subaru, pressed steel from old model
Tyres - Bridgestone DD D693 A/T
CB GME 3200 - GPS - Garmin Emap - Compass - Silva - Frig - Sadec 3 way - Cupboard system for camp gear - home made - Thule roof bars with basket - used for tent, table, chairs on longer trips.

Colin,

The hand made 3 way cupboard system for your camping gear, just wondering if you had any photos of this in your vehicle, so I could see how it works in the forrester, as I kean to make something myself. I have already made a basket for the roof racks of which I use for table, chair sleeping stuff etc when going camping.

If so you could email me a valentyn@airnet.com.au

PS I'm thinking about joining ExplorOz but I'm just exploring the site first before committing myself.
