Just weighing up the options whether to get my gearbox fixed or buy a new one. Any ideas or where to buy a new one from? I have a 96 troopy, 75 series.
Cheers Joe

Joe,
Once a gear box is opened up they will find a lot more that has to be fixed and the quote will blow out.
Then there is the time to get the parts. If you are in
Brisbane the parts will have to come from
Melbourne and if you are in
Melbourne the parts will have to come from
Sydney. You get the idea.
I would look for a reco box, it will be exchange, but you will have the box straight away with little time off the road. This would also be a good time to replace the clutch.
Some wreckers have low kilometre imported boxes from Japan, but I don't think that a 96 Troopy would still be available.

Gday Bluey
Depending on whats wrong.....its quite common for the main transfer gear to wear the spline of the main outlet shaft on the 5 speed. Some gears are made aftermarket with a longer spline and the pto gear is left out...that would be a cheap fix.....another idea if you intend to tow large things, is to put an 80 series gearbox and transfer in it...these are what the fzj75 use and the new hd78/9 so they fit, and are real strong, especially 5th gear......low range is also lower, box needed is from dx or std 80, heaps around smashed at auction these days....plenty of spares to sell would get you a free gearbox...
