Hi Neil
I've been wanting to do that trip for a while, looking forward to the report. I have just spent the last few weekends doing Mt Surprise -
Einasleigh and
Cooktown -
Daintree but don't know to much about the area you have just been so i will watch with interest.
Cheers
Richo (from
Cairns)

We did
Kingsborough, Tyroconnell and Mt Mulligan last year. For me, Mt Mulligan stole the show. What a fantastic
campsite by
the lagoon and the colours of Mt Mulligan at daybreak were breathtaking. Me and my mate from
Cairns are heading back soon to complete the round trip over the
Mitchell River. Richo, make sure you go the extra 20 klm or so to Mulligan - you won't regret it. And stop off at the
Thornborough and Mt Mulligan cemetaries while you're there. Some heartbreaking stories on the
tombstones.

G'day Dux ,, the Mt Mulligan camping ground is now closed , the new station owner now uses it as his
home ,, we saw the
road closed sign , so we asked and that was the story , also saw it on nq miners den page ,, shame , it also was a nice spot ,, as you say , there are many
places to see around the area , Andy and cate are more than happy to point you in many directions ..
happy travels ,, Neil ..

Hi Neil,
Yeah, it's supposedly closed but as always, if you want to do it, there are
ways. My brother's up there at present after contacting the new owner and requesting permission. I also found old Ike at the
Kingsborough van park (?)
a fascinating and informative guy. I hope something sorts itself out with Mt
Mulligan as that place has some interesting history as
well as being the best
campsite for
miles around.

Yes , thats true , there were a few camped on the river banks , so it is still possible ,, the people at the
homestead would help at a guess , and yes , the whole area is
well worth seeing , we will keep going back ..
