Hi all

Was camping at Easter and my primus shower ($29) wouldnt work. Luckily I had a solar one as a spare.
When I pulled the pump apart the impeller shaft was rusted solid and wouldnt turn. Also busted the impeller trying to take it off because the plastic had gone hard and brittle.
I was just wondering if anyone had played around with one of these and perhaps replaced the pump with a small bilge pump or something similar maybe in stainless.
Not interested in the Twine or similar type and I know its only 30 bucks for a new one.
Cheers

Howard.

Howard
We purchased one of the really cheap shower kits from one of the local camping shops some time ago, initially had some problems with it until we replaced the cig lighter plug with a Hella plug, no problems since. We make sure we drain all the waster from it when packing up.

Howard,

I wouldn't bother trying to retrofit a different pump, as you say they are only $30.

If you wish to try something different, but similar, have a look at the Coleman Battery powered Shower.

The pump unit is submersible and can be dropped into a container of water, or attached to an optional collapsible water container. We have had ours for 5-6 years and it still works OK. Uses 4 "D" size batteries.

I would say the flow rate from the shower is "adequate". Just needs a little patience to rinse off the soap.

What I like about it is it is completely portable and doesn't need to be within cooee of the vehicle for the 12 volt supply.

Warm enough water for a shower and place in a rectangular tub. Stand in the tub, drop the pump unit into it and proceed with your shower. The water recirculates which is OK for the two of us. If you were "finicky" you could refill with clean water for subsequent showers.

Just another option to consider.

I have gove through 2 of these shower kits with the same problem.. pump siezed up. I solved the problem buy picking up a 12volt in line water pump in Germany when i was over there. It's actually av VDO marine product, but I've never seen one here. Just an inline pump with a push on fitting at each end and a wiring loom coming out. It's made in Switzerland I think, from memory. (It's packed in the Ct right now)

$30.00.... they are $14 at jaycar, why not just buy another one? for thatprice it's cost effective enough to buy 1 every couple a months!

"cost effective" ??? Just what everyone needs, a pump that breaks down every couple of times you go camping ;-)
Here's a novel idea..... why not pay $80 & get a pump that lasts a life time without all the inconvenience, or better still get a canvas bucket shower which has only 1 moving part & never breaks down.
Cheers Craig.............

Now heres a "novel idea" ...........Why don't you suggest it to him instead of me? I have a $14 cheapy, still works fine after 5 years and I have the rolls royce hot water job in the camper.

Remember........Some people expect the ducks guts yet don't have more than a couple of dollars to spend. :)

Hi Howard
Try Whitworth's, I love this place. If it can take the pounding of a boat and the salt I figure it will work in a 4wdrive. Here is a little pump that would be perfect Site Link

Have fun

What happened to the good old bucket wash? I remember once up in the Kimberleys, Heather & I, in one of those little camping bays down the Western end, with a flannel, in the dark, washing, washing,..........aaagh, it felt sooooo good.

Hi Shaker

Have gone with buying an inline pump and see if I can attach to the existing unit. If I cant attach it you can have it. I will keep in touch.

Howard.

Thank you, hope you get it going, be a shame to have to ditch it just for pump.
