Help, I might need to update my computor. I am told there is only a short time frame to still be able get microsoft XP as an operating system. Have had lots of advice re vista & XP but in 12 months or so I have been told I might not be able to get programs that will run on XP & some of my current programs won't run on vista.
Question. Will vista run oziexplorer 3.95 , Natmap Mosiac 2003 and Westprint outback tracks? Thanks in advance.

Don't worry about it lindsay. Stick with XP.
Worry about future programs being able to run on XP way down the track.
By that time Vista will have gone through a couple of Service Pack upgrades to fix all the current problems.
If I was in the market for a new PC, the first thing I'd do is to format the hard drive and install Windows XP. Thats how good Vista is at the moment.

Micro$oft have ceased distributing XP. The only way to get it now is to seek out a reseller who still has a copy or two. The price of an OEM disk of XP is rising daily.

I run natmap and oziexplorer on vista without problem ,I do not use westprint, but if you plan on running Vista make sure you have a newer machine with a very good video card.

I have Vista running Ozi, so its not a problem, Little glitch in exiting, but still works a treat, teething problems for a wonderful operating system 12 months ahead of its time, actually 12 months ahead of what should have been its proper release date.
XP will still run your programs and the 12 months thing is BS anyway, if you have XP running what u have and its doing the job it will do so in 12 months time.
Vista office uses a XML version of word excel etc which isnt compatable with Office 2003 et al so what?

Read it again Sir Gramps.....
It means: A system raced out to the market to meet marketing hype not engineering/design timeframes that in the fullness of time will approximate what the current system does competently.
Oh my

Hey Bonz, I'm geting used to Vista. You and Juzzy sorted my problem with Office 2007 - ended up saving the document a number of times in various incantations until got the right one - helps if you know what Version of Word other people are running - but managed to get it in the end.
I do find it slow exiting and entering - still not trying to port anything across from old computer - just doing new stuff.
Nice up here in Qld - getting cooler night and morning - hope it means the fish are biting.

If you ever have trouble running Natmap Mosaic 2003 with XP under IE7, it was IE7 that caused the problem, then see (search for Natmap on this site ) my earlier posts re. official patch for this (about 4 months ago I think). It is possible, if you get Vista, that the patch may work for that too. Don't know as I am sticking with XP Media Center for now.

Hi,
I own a small IT company.
You can still get XP Pro legally on your new PC, if you want. Has to be Pro though.
What you do is buy Vista Business - no other version.
Then you need an original XP Pro (not upgrade) disk & install key.
Install XP Pro as you would. When you go to activate it, it will probably fail. Go through the screens & ring activations.
After giving them the first group of numbers, tell them that you are exercising your Microsoft Downgrade Rights. They will then give you a key for XP Pro.
If they give you crap, ask to speak to a supervisor, as I have found that a lot of the activations drones don't know anything about it.
