Just a small question about those car GPS systems.
Do they still show actual position on the screen even though there may not be any maps to be seen?
I am looking at the Garmin 510 and assume there are no maps for say the central area around barkley
homestead etc.

The Garmin I have (Quest) will actually create a 'snail trail', road or no road. That way you can plot your tracks etc.

The main road, but not the
Homestead itself, is on City Navigator V7 which would come with the 510. Also Tracks4Australia, which I would think could be loaded onto it, shows the
Homestead and more minor roads & tracks.

Is it possible to add other maps like Tracks4Australia. if not then maybe you should buy one that does, it will be your best option.

One thing I can tell you about GPS...... get one you can see the map on!! That usually equates to a colour screen. I had a Meridian Gold, (It's for sale now) and as good a unit as it is.... just couldn't see the map. It's a black line on a browny/goldy/murky background. Could see it ok at night as it it is backlit, but had to squint during the day. Bought an Explorist XL, larger colour screen and voila! Instant GPS happiness!!
So have a look at any GPS outside in
bright sunshine, sit in on your dashboard and make sure you can see the screen readily!!
Cheers
Brian
