Has anyone stayed in
Boulia recently?
We are thinking about visiting for a coulpe of nights to see the sights there over the next few months. Is it worth taking our van and staying in the
campground or is there a reasonable 3 + star motel in town. I am finding it hard to get current information. Any comments would be welcome.

There's a motel in town, not sure how good it is.
Campground is clean, usually quiet and easy to overnight at, although it can fill early.
Cheaper to
camp :))

We stayed in
the Desert Sands Motel - i think it was around $70 for the room for the night. Nice room, good people.
The
campground is nice - & there is accommodation at the pub too.

Desert Sands Motel,
Boulia (07) 47463000 - very nice, great people or The Australian Hotel (can't find the number in my little black book) - also very nice people. Very good Min Min Centre (Information) in town with cafe- great interpretative centre.

Turist ,
I just noticed another thread and the guy posting called himself "Turist ( The original one ).
So how can I talk to you if your not original for gosh sakes .
Well , I'll lower myself to do so this once , but maybe you should change your name to :
Turist ( The intelligent one )
I am off up the Plenty Hwy on May 20 . From
Sydney I drive to
Cunnamulla on the first day where I am staying on a cattle property that provides accom. Next night I sleep in
Winton which means to do my normal 800 to 1000 klm a day I will be
well past
Boulia by bedtime the next day - I have not quite figured out where I will end up that night . Maybe I should spend a day there instead of roaring through , there seems a fair bit to see in the area .
Have a good time ,
Willie .

Hi Willie
Thanks for your reply,
A year ago when we moved to
Mount Isa on a 2 year posting I wanted to ask on the
forum about caravans and was told that I needed to have a username. Created a new login using the name turist which the system accepted without question. The name was chosen at random on
the spot.
I have worked with computers for long enough to know a username is just a shorthand way to identify me and seemed a fair choice. A rose by any other name ... Sometime later I noticed several posts by someone who seemed to be somewhat upset that I had taken what he felt was his name. At no time did he contact me directly and ask me to change it - which I would have favourably considdered at first - he just made some remarks about my posts on line.
Well he will have to live with it as I have made a number of posts now and dont want to change it!
There are plenty of interesting
places and things to see round this area of queensland - at
Easter we went to
Longreach to see the
test flight of the 707. Amazing to see a plane that was first flying in Australia when
Menzies was PM doing
test landings and pulling away to fly back to
Sydney.
On the way back we called into the
Combo waterhole where Waltzing Matilda was written. Every time I hear the tune now I remember the visit.
Boulia will be an interesting place to visit on the edge of the
Simpson desert. I talked to a bushie from there recently and asked him about the Min Min lights and he went pale and wouldnt say anymore. Just made me keen to go see for myself.
Sounds like the surrounding country could be worth a look too. Take time to smell the roses.
Dave
