I have recently purchased a 3litre patrol petrol and was wondering if any body has any tricks to improve the performance of the engine, besides replaceing it with something bigger, can't afford that one yet.

My brother has an RB30 Patrol, and while not a rocketship, it can keep up with the traffic without a hassle. It has a 2-1/2 inch freeflow exhaust, and a set of extractors, which i beleive has made a noticeable difference, but it is noisier, which i think is nice, but you want make friends with your neighbours driving it up the street at 2 in the morning! I think another cheap fix is a hiclone, and whilst he does not have one fitted yet, i reckon ontop of the exhaust system, it would be a much better car to drive. Thes motors also love to rev, and once over about 4,500rpm, it is almost like a little turbo kicking in, it's quite amazing! Another thing to try is running it on Optimax or Ultimate, as thes have a higher octane rating than even premium, and make an RB30 run as smooth as silk, and at the same time, give a performance increase, but beware, you will probably take advantage of the extra grunt, and therfor will not see any increase in economy. Hope this has helped you some. Tristjo.

Safari also produce the UniChip - for petrol motors. It costs about $1,200 fitted and is claimed to add around 20% power and torque.Be good, or be quick.

You can fit NISMO gear that is fitted to VL Commodores, or Some Skylines, they are the same donk.

they are not known for power, or economy..

But there is an article in an old mag I scored from the Dr's surgery the other day, this bloke spent around $5000 on his with Nismo and its up in the 200+kw department..

Truckster,

The RB30 in the Patrols is a carby version of the fuel injected Skylines and VLs. So maybe going to fuel injection is a possibility. Must be lots of those motors lying around the wreckers.
