I have been making enquiries about installing an air reservoir so that I can
seat the bead on tyres , and blow out my radiator and air cleaner if I need too . Last week I read in one of the 4WD mags an article by
John Cardogan , showing how easy it was to do .
He wasn't kidding , it was easy . I just trotted off down to ENZED at Silverwater , said here's my hose , what fittings do I need on the pump end to install an air gun and the guy layed them out on the counter . I also bought a long nozzle for getting down behind the radiator ( which I have added a 90 degree bend too ).
I tried it out and even at 40 lb pressure in the tyre , it worked a treat . All you need to do is get an attachment for the pump end of the hose that allows you to attach the air gun to it . On the pump end of my ARB hose it was a male fitting and so is the air gun - so you need a coupling with a female at both ends !
COST
CA-10 Air Gun $ 22.50
CA-300 300mm Nozzle Extension $ 26.00
? Female both ends Coupling $ ?
I cannot tell you the model or price of that coupling as I had to use a different system because I have installed a hand tyre guage thingie - a jnr version of the service stations jobbies . I bought this on-line from AIR UP and it is accurate and a pleasure to use .
I am off to the Rosehill 4WD Show with Gramps tomorrow to look for more Gadgets !
Willie .

Anything with a female at both ends sounds suspect to me Willie :)
On the other hand.... :) :)

I also use the spare tyre as an air reservoir.
I use it to transfer fuel from the jerry cans, sitting on the A-frame of the camper, with a "Tanami Pump". Best travelling invention I've ever come across.
I have previously lifted the jerrys out of the rack and transferred the fuel into the tank via a bloody spout that refuses to remain in the one position. It tips, the fuel spills out onto my foot and I get cranky, not to mention a sore back afterwards. (I just did didn't I)
No more folks. The Tamami Pump makes life easy and using the spare tyre's air pressure eliminates the need to get out Big Red. The pump is used at
camp to re-inflate the tyre again.

Have used a similar system, easy to do. But what happens when you have a flat tyre and need the spare ? No more air supply, especially if you've aired down for the track.

Gramps, of course I do, but the second spare is where Toyota put it....impossible to get at. Yes, air pump, but whats the point of having 2 sets of gear ? All that airing up takes effort :)))
Get thee to a 4wd show.

Not sure how effective air is at getting spinefex seeds out of radiators. The little darlings swell when they get moisture, that I do know.

my theory is keep the spare wheel/s pumped up to 60lb and use them to
seat the tyre and use the tyre pump to top each wheel up again. You ought to get plenty of volume under pressure that way. Havent tried it yet but would be interested to hear from anyone who has.
