For those of you who are dog oriented and want a quiet family weekend away, check out www.bestfriend.net.au Very impressive and a good idea. I'm taking dog up there next weekend to check the place out.

We have stayed there 18mths ago and are f ull of praise for it. In fact I was talking to Ralfe & Coralie (The owners) about franchising the concept and opening up all around Aust. I feel there is a need for it all over this land.

The kennels are the best, they offer the lonely pooch a video to watch as well as a couch to lie on and carpeted floors.

The cabins (in fact any type of site) can be fenced to allow your pooch free range within those bounds as well a exercise areas off leash.

The surrounding area in spectacular also.

I gave it 5+ Paws.(and the dog gave it 5 woofs) Easily the best thing for people with Fur kids.

When I first looked at the site I thought the same thing (although my dog won't be spending any time in a kennel).

This probably is not 4WD related, but a lot of people would like to go to the country and have a secure pet area.

Kim,

This can be 4wd related as the area has some nice tracks within a days outing from there. It is on the edge of a wonderful NP Etc.

I would recommend it to anyone that wants their dog to enjoy a stay as much as they would.

Amber (My Dog) was very happy there.

Just do it Kim, I WILL go there again just as soon as I go to Victoria again, and that's every year (Mum lives near there).
Colin.

Hey Kimprado

This seems like a good idea, perhaps there is a market for franchise out there.

If there were a few more around the country, People can stay in these park with the dog, without having to worry, they could leave there dogs there for the day and visit a National Park and not have to worry.

If it keeps dogs out of National Parks and allowing people to go on holidays and take the dog with them, Its got my vote.

Cheers Steve.

Had a look at the site - what a fantastic idea - why don't all caravan parks provide something similar. An area like this with all the grey nomads on the road with their pets (like us) would happily pay for the priviledge of using this facility.

Agree that they should franchise the concept. It amazes me how much of a huge (and growing) market non pet parks miss out on.

Thanks Dian

My intention was not to commercialize or even support the venture (I haven't been there yet).

Needless to say if its as good as I hear, I'll certainly suggest to the owners that they consider advertising on this site.

There are many dog people out there looking for a pet security.

Regards

Kim

Thanks for your concern.

I spoke to the owners about this. Apparently you need a Toilet Training Certificate (not applicable to dogs).

Luckily, I've just completed a TAFE TTC course.

LOL

Gday Kim,
I did try contact you about an old local a while ago but got no reply (altzeimers setting in hey?)
The bloke I was trying to get hold of (Bill Wright) is dead so it made it a bit hard but a mate at work has been around here for ever and his old man is still alive as well. You wont get nothing out of him over the phone and he wouldnt know how to turn a computer on but is more than happy to sit down with you over a beer when you come up this way.
Cheers

Thanks mate.

Does'nt look as though my friends have a great deal of interest in the bush so I'll be travelling solo.

I'll up there late May, early June.

Looking forward to sitting down with you over a few beers. I'll give you a ring before leaving Latte town.

Regards

Kim

I wonder how many more there are around the country, I know that there is holiday homes in Kendenup, in the south of WA, that are set up for your furry friend and I have a recollection that there is a caravan park down near Busselton which has similar set up, I am not sure on that one as I have only heard of it.

Certainly a great idea and one that I would support with our three legged furry friend.

Cheers

We were in the Tarra Valley last weekend at Fernhlme Caravan Park which is about 2kms down the road from Bestfriend. We dropped in and had a look - seems a great place.....although you can also take your dog to Fernholme, which is an excellent place to stay. The Tarra Valley and Tarra-Bulga NP are an excellent place - easy day trip from Melbourne too.
