spotted a jackaroo with camper trailer this arvo in the carpark at woolies katherine. had www.exploroz.com.au, across the tailgate of the trailer.

you can tell the dry is here by the nongs in campervans, signs at the entrance to the carpark cleary says, no campervans, no caravans and no trailers. doesnt stop this mob, huge campervans trying to fit into a 1 car spot, then the arse end of the van pokes out about 2 metres, seen people jackknife their big vans trying to get around one particularly tight corner. turning left from the right lane, right from the left, im sure when they hire these campers they have to pass a stupidity test t o get them.

When I lived & worked up that way there was very little tourism , and very little action , now Katherine is a go ahead place as a result of tourism , so I guess you could give them a little bit of slack . But having said that if you put signs up not evertyone is going to read them , especially tourists with their eyes looking at the sights everywhere :)

This fella will soon find out that these nongs and people that need to pass the stupidity test will actually pay his wages.

Over 350000 tourists visit this area in the next six months and some of will be you.

When you live in an area that lives on tourism if you can't smile and let it be, then you need to be some were else.

Hey Hiab take a chill pill.

how many years do you have to smile? you are not here, some of them are dead set dangerous , most of the bad ones seem to be corporate shiny bum types, who have no experience with large vehicles. but after driving thousands of keys to here you would think they would have picked up some skill.and yes they do pay my wages, we get them in the workshop regularly with their problems.

Hey Hiab

I've been smiling for 14 years, in fact I've built a very successful tour business out of smiling.

I've also been going to Katherine for 33 year as well. When I visit Katherine with my tour vehicle and trailer, I park in the Woolies car park but next to the bottle shop.

As I said take a chill pill and make some money.

Steve.

Bugger - now you will have to smile even harder, because there will be even more tourists.

What's wrong with corporate shiny bums anyway - they are just people like the rest of us. I know, because I have been variously a blue collar non-shiny bum, a corporate shiny bum, and now self-employed shiny forehead.

You shouldn't denigrate people because they have a different job to you and can't do what you find admirable. You probably can't run a board meeting either....

Hey Gerhardp1.

From the sounds of things there not very smart corporate shiny bums any way.

Not if they bulldozer a 2 lane bottle shop to build a 2 lane bottle shop.

Nothing wrong with the old 2 lane bottle shop Steve.

'Tweren't us! You will see us coming and need good eyesight, after we have passed, to see the small EO sticker on our rear end. We are 'resting' down south at Lat 25, so that leaves about 6 other members it could be. I wonder if they will 'fess up when they get back?

After all these years it sounds like there's still nothing but hiks living in Katherine. The best part about it is that its only 3 hours to Darwin.

Cheers

Actually I think the problem may lie with Woolworths. They should have provision for CTs and caravanners to pull in and get supplies (from Woolworths) and spend lots of dollars, and perhaps have a cuppochino at a cafe nearby, without having to park miles away and hobble with the walking stick and grey hair all the way to the supermarket, and then have to walk all the way back again with 5 bags of groceries, only to find that meanwhile some unfortunate person has been watching them leave for the supermarket, and knowing that the nomads were going to be away for a long time, and have helped themselves to several items from the CT or caravan.

Arkay,

You have hit the nail on the head as far as I can see. One of my pet hates is the lack of parking for vehicles which are any larger than a Dunnydore or Falcoon. Very few tourist towns provide parking within cooee of anything for vehicles with a trailer, or the 22 seat bus. I know because I travel in both.

Some towns and businesses are providing parking for such vehicles but to no avail. Many people travelling in one car space vehicles like the trailer parking area because the spaces are bigger and they can drive in and drive out.

While I have the hobby horse at a flat gallop, how come every diesel bowser in Australia is out in the blazing sun while the ULP and Auto gas get shade.

Hey Duncs

Its hard these days to park a cruise in any car park these days.

Apparently these shopping centres, want to make them even smaller to fit more cars in.

To be honest I've parked my car and trailer in that said car park well over 100 times, with out much fuss, in the same token, it can be done without any inconvenience to every one else.

What I have found even more frustrating is when you pull into places like the F3 freeway fuel & foodstops and find that the fifteen or so trailer parking bays are blocked off by cars not towing a trailer. This seems to happen without fail at any kind of place that trailer/long vehicle spaces are provided, so what are people supposed to do? Not stop to buy food, take a no.2 in the gutter? What really gets up my nose is people that see a 4WD towing a trailer or a boat in front of them and suddenly mutate , hell bent on risking life and limb to get in front of it in the belief that if they don,t .....it will slow them down. Unfortunately seem unable to realise that you are already doing 5k over the limit and upon getting in front, they promptly roll off the throttle to whatever speed they see fit (usually 10k's under) and then start madly flipping the bird when you nearly clobber the back of their car! and then when you can safely overtake them,.....they floor it......just till the overtaking lane ends, then jump on the brakes.

Gee' you feel better after a good whinge!
