I have a navara dual cab and am looking at carrying an extra spare wheel, but no space really.

Is anyone aware of a spare wheel carrier which can fit inside the hayman reece towbar, it seem logical, as it could be used on any vehcile?

Not sure if one exists, but it wouldn't be too hard to make one or have one made up. The only issue though is that it is a lot of weight pivoting on one small point, unless you have a way to anchor it to stop it moving around.

We thought of getting one made, might have to, but there is design work, as you said with the weight, but the square tubing going inside the tow bar can be heavy duty, we thought two swing arms, one side for the tyre, and the other for a jerry can., the weight would be closer to the centre.

What kind of bumper do you have? On my old Hilux, i made up my own swing out wheel carrier for the 2nd spare. bolted a hinge plate to one side of the rear bar (twin tube steel) and a strike/catch plate on the other side of the bar, but when closed, a catch hooked over the tongue of the tow bar, transferring the weight of the tyre and arm down onto the tow bar. Hardly any movement as the tyre/wheel was put as low down as possible to where the upright and cross sections of tubing met and were reinforced.

That would be appreciated, I hve the normal rear step bumper for the D22 Navara, Was hoping to not have to put any more holes in the old girl, and that it could be transferrable to other vehicles. Photos would be much appreciated

vcbb,
Could I trouble you for a copy of your photo's too. I have a LC80 and have been considering making a twin spare wheel carrier for a while (can't justify $3K for a commercial one).

If you are a member of the Australian 4 Wheel Drive Forum, have a look at this link, on the Hyundai Terracan Owners section, it might be just what you are looking for to give you some ideas about construction, application etc. Link Good luck with it, I put togetheer something very similar many years ago, attached to the ball mount hole, worked well, never failed me over many thousands of km's. Don't forget to obtain an additional number plate and number plate light to install on the spare wheel - if it obstructs your original number plate. It did on mine.

I made my own but to carry fuel for extended out back trips but can be easily made to carry a spare tyre, they are simple to make if you have the gear and can weld .have a look at my home page there is one picture of it . if you email me i will send you more.
I only ever made one mistake
and that's when I thought I was wrong!
