Anyone got any comment about the Honda 20i Genny?
I'm thinking of buying one for supporting the 20Ltr Fridge (when & if ever needed), maybe occasional use of an 800w Microwave (800w contant but aware of larger "surge" at start - unknown), & as emergency supply for a 4" Angle Grinder/Cutter, 1/2" Drill & offering charge to the Aux battery.
Is the 12v output suitable for charging the normal wet lead acid cranker &/or a 100/ah AGM Deep Cycle battery (needs supervision)? I've heard Genny 12v supplies are unregulated.
Thanks.

The Honda units are great.
I have had my EU20I for 3 years now and it starts every time and runs the a/c and all other accessories.
I don't use the 12V out. I use a Smart Charger off the 240V side.
Regards
Derek.

Gday Rumbler
Had
mine for 3 years and like my Honda Buffalo mower I bought in the year 1991 it starts first time every time.
Mine runs everything on my off road caravan including battery charger, dometic fridge, micowave, TV and all other items I have forgotten at the same time. If I need to run the airconditioner I can run everything else but the microwave
While I run it for the usual 2 hours every night I chain
mine to the bullbar of the magnificent Polar Bear & connect the 12 volt separate charging cable to the Landcruisers 2nd battery & top that up free of charge ensuring that the beer stays cold in the Engel whilst in
camp - it certainly works for me. I also run my Waeco freezer on full speed on 240 vots for this 2 hours and this is usually enough to keep cooler than minus 5 degreesfot the next 22 hours.
My advice is to buy quality and reap the benifits for years to come.
Also Honda genes are a hot theft item. I made a cover for
mine so it is not visible in the truck and the chain and padlock I use are serious.
Choose wisely
Lindsay

We have a EU20i too and it's very good, if charging batterys use an out board battery charger (as saide above)as it will be better for deep cycle types and you can get a bigger capacity charge the the Honda one, someone said the on board charger only puts out 12.8 volts I have not tested it yet.
When using it remember to open the breather on the fuel cap.
Have a look around I think some of them now have a 5 year warranty.

I love
mine. Starts every time, economical. I too keep
mine well disguised and locked down, but it is insured as
well.
I've often used the 12 volt out to charge lead/acid crankers and AGM btteries with no probs.
A top quality unit in these days of cheap crap, a pleasure to own and use.
My wife reckons the lawn mowers are good as
well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The Generator Place are most helpful in the Honda range giving great discounts, cash backs when available,Extended warranty & free delivery I'm very happy with their service I would highly recommend them. Like Lindsay said you can't run the air conditioner & microwave together as my wife did this after I told her many times, reply oops I forgot. The generator just trips out how ever they do not recommend that you keep tripping the 20i out.
Cheers Macca

I used to actually sell these for a marine chandelery. To put it plainly they are the ducks nuts; most economical, whisper quietness and in over 300 units sold whilst I was there only one was returned (Had been dropped from a great hieght and the cheeky bugger swapped out the damaged outer casing and tried the 'but it just suddenly stopped working' whinge, sent it to the workshop and found the crankcase cracked apart like a watermelon).
12v for charging batteries only, use a transformer if running anything 12v.
They are an incredibly hot theft item. I sold a brand new unit to a guy in his fifties who was preparing to go aroung the country (like you do...) who decided to go for a trip up to teewah beach in QLD. Found a
campsite away from anyone (or so he thought) and set up caravan for a good few days. A cheeky bugger walking through has seen his genny running about 20m away from the caravan up in the scrub. Bargain says cheeky bugger, goes back and get his old thunker el-cheapo job and wanders back to the Honda. Starts his and puts it side by side the honda then switches power leads and buggers off with the honda. Old mate in the caravan has seen the lights dim for a second and the aircon cycle in and out briefly but has disregarded it. An hour or so later he hears chug-chug-chug then everything goes black as the old thunker runs out of juice. Grabs his torch and goes to inspect the 'Honda'................
The sheer hide of some people.
We used to sell them for around $2100 normally and $2050 on special, but this was a two years ago.

You guys!
You sure you don't all work for Honda? Thanks a lot, I'm convinced. I'll use an off-board charger, just in case.
I intend to store it inside the truck out-of-sight & nail the bugger down when using it, with the 240 connected to the chassie to zap any light findered visitors (only joking!)
Thanks everone, I'm sold.

Hi Rumbler,
I have a Honda 20i for a different reason; Cyclone season in
Cairns. My house is set up to run 2 fridges, 3 ceiling fans, half a dozen lights, television and power supply for my computer, via a hookup in the main power board. Has been used in 'anger' twice. No problems on the TV or computer. It won't run all items at the same time, but most of them. Hope that helps.
Cheers
Kevin

We recently brought a 10i for the same reason (from the Generator Place at the
Sydney show).
Great tips about locking it down, amazing what some people do to steal them!
