Chris,
Got back last Saturday. Seems that is a daily event.
I didn't attempt the bypass at
Indian Head but enjoyed a nice walk to the Pools.
I found the limits of my X-Trail. I got back to
Eurong at 4pm one day with 80 min till high tide. I pushed through about 30km of the soft stuff for an hour. Like a work out at the gym. My body ached and my head hurt after all that concentration.
I learned the foibles of a viscous coupled diff with a mind of its own - even if it is a survival technique - cuts out when gets hot and suddenly we are ploughing in 2Wd. On 3 occasions we had to give the car a rest to get 4wd back.
I learned that the soft sand at the watermark on an incoming tide is not a good place to let a limited clearance xtrail to get bogged. We dug and dug and got out.
I learned that it is normal to see the backpackers terrorising
the beach and all on it with their mad driving.
I learned that I was there in a quiet time - ugh hate to see busy.
Indian head was 3 backpacker deep at the edge. Almost Standing room only in the pools. More people shouting and running and playing frisbee at the Lakes that on
the beach at the
Gold Coast.
I learned to spot the backpackers because they were usually not wearing sun cover.
I watched two American backpackers have a running race up the quite beautiful
Eli creek and then have wresling match whilst those who were appreciating the peace and serenity wandered off.
I also watched quite a bikini parade and wifey was quick to notice me noticing. But that is no compensation for the taer around stomp all over backpacker attitude I saw.
Sad really. Dont think I will go back (at least until I have a real 4by)
