I own a second-hand motorhome, and recently bought an exchange gas cylinder, only to find it is too big to fit into the hatch. It would appear that what I always thought was a standard dimension item, is not. Does anyone know if the smaller (by about 20mm) bottle is available, or do I have to have mine re-surveyed, and hope that it passes-luckily I did not exchange my out-of-date bottle. Flaming annoying that they change these things on us.

Unfortunately there seems to be two different sizes for the gas bottle. I replaced mine recently only to find the one I received was too small.

The only solution appears to be- Be Careful or you will get caught sooner or latter.

Best of luck

Get your original bottle tested that way it is good for ten years.
The swap n go is convenient but usually not as cheap and you get some ordinary cylinders at times.
There are 2 sizes 8.kg and 9 kg which is a bit of a bother.
Alternatively You could try to exchange the bottle you have for a smaller one.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Got the same set up ...the 9 Kg bottle in my unit...........is really an 8.5 Kg unit ...most changeover places ...well should i be more specific .. a lot of them have these bottles ..but travel outback ..and maybe better to rely on a re-fill . at any where possible .. I carry a spare one anyway !!...that's why i have a "home' ...plenty of extra space !!

I found this too on swap n go, I got one that was too big for my van.

I just stuck it on bbq at home, but it does happen.

Another reason I went to coleman dual fuel stove n lantern for just the swag type fishin trips, no gas bottle to worry bout.

Had the same issue with our new-to-us CT, was told that the size was wacky specially for CT's and Vans and now not availale. Had the old bottle tested and re-approved for $35. Unfortunately, not many people around who do the testing. There is only one mob in Sydney who do it. You may be luckier in WA.

First we found about that was when buying a camper trailer, he specified that he made the holders for the aussie brand 9kg gas bottle as we opted to buy our own (GasMate or something from BigW) and that not all 9kg bottles are equal when it comes to size!

Sorry can't help you but certainly a good post so that people are aware of the fact.
