Hi, In the mid 1950's, as an 7 year old, I visited Angepena Station with my parents. My father and his father, built Angepena Station I believe in the mid to late 40's. As a person now planning the 'big' trip, I plan on visiting Angepena Station. However in my research, I find only a few mentions of Angepena Station, but plenty of '
Old Angepena Ruins'. Are they one of the same? If not, I would appreciate any information, links, contact details of Angepena Station from those that are familiar with the area.
Cheers
Kevin

Angepena Station is still there and run by the Nicholls Family.
Old Angepena Ruins is part of the Warraweena/Angepena Gold Fields Track as listed in ExplorOz Treknotes. The
ruins are on Angepena Station. You should be able to find the phone number of the station in the White Pages Directory.

Thanks willem,
Been looking through the trek notes, saw where the
ruins were, but not the station. As an old
Port Augusta boy, the area is still of interest to me.. Thanks again.

Willem
I read with interest your thread regarding your recent viste to
Warraweena with the budding Rembrants. Did you choose only the 'easy'
treks or do them 'as they came' so to speak?
I ask because I thought some of them were rated as 'difficult' - how would you rate them as against (say) Skytrek,
Alpana (Mt buggery Challenge) and
Mulga View treks?
Happy days
George

Hi George
I have done all the
treks on
Warraweena and all the mapping for ExplorOz Treknotes
This time I drove most of the usual tracks and some that very few people get to.
I haven't done any of the
treks you mention such as Skytrek etc but others rate
Warraweena Tracks the best. I can't tell. The most difficult is the Mt Gill Trek where low range is used quite a bit and the 35km distance takes 5.5hours. As far as I am concerned its not frightfully difficult but then other drivers may have a different view.
Cheers

Hi George,
Last year we drove the Mt Gill, Skytrek,
Alpana Mt Samuel track and
Mulga View Top of the Stirrup Iron Range track and would rate Mt Gill & Skytrek to be the better (mored scenic) and harder of those we drove and although I wouldn't class the
treks as easy there was nothing too demanding even for our stock standard 1999 Nissan Pathfinder but perhaps a novice may find things a little difficult in
places so not the
treks to begin 4x4 driving on without having experienced co driver sitting along side.

If you are referring to Angepina station in the Northern Flinders near
Leigh Creek then it is still there I know the owners and one of their sons.
It is a sheep station, but on the property are the remains of an old town I think with
ruins of a hotel and a police station etc.
Hope this helps

I spoke to the owners this morning, they asked is your surname Rasfus?
He thought the
homestead was built in 1939
They said no problem for you to visit.
I can't seem to send a private message as I am not a member.
Their number is in the book

Very close. Surname; Rasmus. CE Rasmus and Sons were the builders. There you go, if it was built in 39, then I'm learning more every day.

After more research I find that my granfather and father also built Umberatana HS about the same time as Angepena HS. Any details of owners/ contacts would be very much appreciated. The last known owners were by the name of Treloar.
Cheers
