G'day
We are going up to Fraser Island in a few weeks, I have been trying to work out where the best
camp ground would for a family with 2 little kids 5 and 2, we will be tenting, and are going with my parents who are taking their camper trailer, so we are looking for an area where we
camp together.
Thanks Dave

Morning Dave,
Can't help you up that way - but you may be able to give me some ideas.
We leave for Tassie at the end of this month for 4 weeks break, 2 Landcruisers towing camper vans.
Can you give us any ideas of good caravan parks to use as bases when travelling about ? We were thinking of setting up
camp about 4 times in different locations
and travelling around the area we camped at.
Any suggestions or good spots Dave.
Sorry to answer your question with a question !!
Have a great trip to Frazer Island (you should with mobile baby sitters)
Regards Nick

We have only ever been to one caravan park in tassie at cradle mt and that was because there is no bush/
free camping as close to the Cradle Nat Pk. My favourite spots around tassie are; East coast near
Scamander is Little Beach. North East is point (top end of
bay of fires) and north east pk at Scottsdale. North Coast is Black River near
Stanley. West Coast is Macquarie Heads near
Strahan. And one close to
home is
Lime Bay (near
Port Arthur), I've done plenty of day but never stayed. I'm going to Mt Field just for Saturday night (mothers day gift) which is also a fantastic place. Both these last two are about an hour from
Hobart in different directions, you could spent four weeks just exploring from there. Mt field is the oldest National Pk in Australia I believe, some really big trees. Hope to of been some help.
Dave
Ps All of these
places except cradle and mt field have little or no
services, that what makes them special. Most can have fires.

Re the mobile baby sitters, my parents are farmers near
bundarra in nsw so they don't see very much of their grandkids, dad asked me the other day if the kids wanted to sleep in the camper. The wife and I are pretty happy about that. Means we take the little 3 man tent instead of the 10 man 500 kilo tent it was looking like, we caravan up and back, just not taking the caravan to Fraser. We will be away from the 22nd of may till the 19th of June, if you are still here we may be able to catch up.

Thanks for that Dave.
We leave to come back on the 23 June. Would be great to catch up with you whilst over there, but looking at the dates we could be cutting it a bit fine.
What part of Tassie do you live?
Will catch you later, just off to
Adelaide.

Dundaborough on the Eastern side or ocean side would be your best bet, hot showers (coin op) near to
the beach yet away from the traffic. You will need to book a site thru QLD Parks & Wildlife.

Hi Dave,
How worried are you about the dingoes (ligit question) with the little ones?
Central Station is fenced and is a relatively nice area except there are bollards everywhere which
ruins the experience (
well to me anyway) and can be difficult with a camper. Otherwise we found the stretch between Awinya Creek and Wathumba to be very beautiful as it is on the sheltered side of the island and is really a great beach. We found a spot that had no mozzies or midgies but have heard others near the creek that had plenty.
We toured alot of the out of the way
places and had many varied types of camps - all great. We have a trip report write up on our website.
Regards
David

Wongai or Marloo, beachside, plenty space, beautifull but unfenced...
just remember if the dingoes start crowding or growling at you report it too the
ranger
those solar light are really good placed around a
camp-site, dingoes dont like venturing into the light
dingoes dont like sticks been struck together and a
didgeridoos also emunate the same sound as a
dingo growl which also keeps them away..
Also be aware of the eagles - they ground-hunt at night

Dave,
I would
camp at Dundaburra. Good facilities with showers,
toilets, and washing up facilities. Also fenced from the dingos. It is a little way up the island to travel back for the tourist activities such as Waddy or Lake McKenzie but a bit further away from the backpackers.
Facilities closer to the southern end are Catherdral or
Central Station. Central seemed quite nice in the forest with good facilities.
Beautiful spot basically you will be happy anywhere.

the other advantage about the dfenced areas is they have dog-grids (cattle-grids) in the
gate entrances

Thanks for all the replies
Sounds like Dundubara is the go. My five year old daughter is quite worried about the Dingos, there are none down here.
