Heading off on a round oz trip next year in a cruiser towing a two tonne plus off road van. Lot of highway, sand & gravel driving.
Wondering about comments on tyres, BFG's v Coopers v Bridgestone.
Particularly interested in comments about road noise & punctures.
Need to make a decision in the next couple of weeks.
Cheers

IMO, you won't go wrong with a set of BFG All-Terrains.....I've had 4 sets without issues and put through some very tough conditions without even one flat. Good value for money plus I have always recieved 80000km plus out of a set.......Never had Coopers and I'm not much of a fan of the Bridgstones but depends what you want out of a tyre....

I think overall the BFG's get less bad press than the others, so I would be sticking them on if I was in your shoes !!

By the way I've got Coopers !!

Stick with AT's and noise won't be a problem....punctures ?? ..drive to the conditions and they won't be a problem either !!

I am not sure about driving to the conditions and punctures won't be a problem.

When we did Cape York I had 10 punctures in 8 weeks. My mate who kept up with me all the way had none.

The first one was coming out of Molong on the bitumen. The last one was coming down the expressway into Brisbane. The valve stem got cut.

My firm belief is that after 20years without a puncture it was simply my turn.

Ohh yeah, I have had two punctures since, one on bitumen at about 80km/h and one doing some very hard work where I tore a hole in the side wall of a brand new BFG AT, not blaming the tyre it was tough going.

Hey Duncs,

I've got a mate like that. Always happy to follow in my dust.

Have finally worked out he allows me to drive out in front and pick up all the "sharps", while he follows behind with his tyres still at highway pressure.
Bloody lazy bugger he is. Good company all the same:-)

G'day Bill

We've also had BFG ATs with a Hilux TD and on Tvan. Current set are at 64000km (around town / Kangaroo Is / Flinders ranges / Darling River run / Birdsville track) and estimate is around 10000km left on them. Will replace within 5000km because of trip planned for July / August. Two puntures - one on the Darling River run - 5" steel blade; one in Marree - screw (probaly on the bitumen in town at the end of the Birsdville Track run)

Can't really comment on road noise because of limited basis for comparison. Not really noticeable, and certainly not intrusive.

Price in Canberra for LT265s is $295.00 / tyre

Cheers
